On a serious note I hope you make a speedy recovery jed.
Funily enough I usually have an open carton of water for the Jack Russell in the cab and didn't really realise it would help. I also drink plenty of coffee and the odd beer.(y)

Does anyone else find that after long day driving or even walking. At home later in the day you just can’t keep your legs still? It’s only relaxing when your moving or stretching them.

Ive Googled this and came across something called restless legs syndrome. It’s quite horrible.
Got that.
Wouldn't wish it on anyone.
On same medication as folk with Parkinson's.
Finish up ( or just start off) in the spare bedroom most nights.
Like riverdance with snoring apparently. :(

I used to get really bad pain in the leg when driving a MF 64 series tractor with the stupid forward push foot throttle. You had to drive with your heel in the air.
Cut a wedge of wood and bolt it on ,raid the fridge for wedges of cheese to get the right size ,but dont bolt itnon as only cheese ,wont last too long
made a wedge on 99 , years ago makes it a lot better

My family all suffer from this, it's bloody horrible. My ancient Mum suffers terribly.

I get it in bouts, have had it years. Can go months without it bothering me but then can be every night for a week or 2. Only way I’ve found to cure it is to lie on my front and stretch my feet out as far as possible

On the checking over the machine idea... was getting dark having started at 4 in the afternoon on wheat. went to switch the lights on and saw the volt meter drop to 9v. thought thats odd, so when i unloaded the tank i got off and checked up on the alternator, having been combining for a few hours i needed to stretch my back out a bit anyway, as leaning over forwards to see stubble height makes you feel like quasimodo! To my horror i saw that one of the battery connectors on the rear of the alternator had come loose and was sparking! I dont think i've ever got from the engine bay to the cab and shut it down quicker than i did then... always check over your machine every few hours, it might be the difference between a timely finish to harvest and a massive fire. And on the air con and drinking lots of water... it should have air con, but its out of gas and its on R12... dealership quoted 2k to make it work again so it just gets a bit hot... getting out and having a walk around is nice, makes you appreciate how cold 25 degrees can feel.

Anyone doing long hours on tractors or combine harvesters please be careful .
Week last Tuesday whilst knocking the barley of about 8 at night I had a severe stabbing pain in the back of my calf just like you have when you have cramp in the middle of the night .This progressively got worse over the next week and on medical examination turns out I had a blood clot or DVT similar to you might get on a long haul flight .
Doc reckons 10 hrs sat on my arse aircon on full blast and taking no fluids on board.
Downside it’s bloody painful and the next 3 to 6 months on blood thinners which is not ideal been a mixed arable livestock farmer.
Upside the clot luckily for me didn’t move to my lungs .
So if you experience a similar problem don’t try and walk it off as I did for a week go and see the quack as soon as you can.

You have me worried now , I have had a bit of a niggle just under the back of my left knee over my calf , it’s an annoying feeling sometimes and then goes away. I’ve actually thought is it a clot. How do those symptoms match yours. Thanks.

Hi James
The pain I had in my calf was in the same place as yours .A feeling like cramp in the middle of the night it came and went over the first few days but then was constant and my calf was swollen and tight couldn’t really walk on it .
If in doubt go to the docs it’s a simple blood test called a d-dimmer test if this is elevated they will send you for a ultra sound. The alternative is carry on with a possible blood clot which could move from your leg to your lungs or heart which you don’t want.
All the best

Quite bizarre I posted the orginal post my mother who is 79 has just been diagnosed with a dvt in the leg same as I had and she hasn’t driven a tractor for 40 years !
But we have had COVID in the family again so maybe that’s been the cause
Who knows certainly not the doctors but must admit I could name about 10 folk now who I know personally who have had Dvt‘s in the last 12 months including a cousin who ended up in intensive care with several pulmonary embolisms
Before COVID only new of one guy who had dvt in the leg.🤔
