Is this a wind up , livestock farmer changing oil in a machine , sounds a tall story to me
Aye, now you've pointed that out, ruminant farmer changing oil does have the suspicious whiff of a fabricated yarn......

....... Probably just a fanciful tale dreamt up by a couple of them cereal boys while away at one of their skiing holidays 😉

Some of us are better at making mistakes than others!

Drained the Land Rover and let it drip while I went to lunch. Came back out and started to re-fill...but forgot to put the sump plug back in!

Another time, I stripped the sump plug as above. Got the local garage to repair it. That'll teach me. Do a Google on stripped sump plug. We are not alone!

Oil changes are now done with one of those pumps where the input pipe is stuck down the dip stick hole. £15 off ebay. Job done.

I have an average intelligence Machinery Student from the local Ag college.

I asked if he knew how to change the oil and filters on a Yamaha quad. Oh yes we have done oil filter changes at college.
So I left him to do it at his leisure.

Well he drained the oil and changed the filter, but then managed to cross thread the sump plug and has now stripped the thread in the sump housing!!!!

Anyone have any suggestion on how to fix this other than a new casting?
At present he is very seriously in the Dog house and has been put to work shovelling sh1t!
Think yourself lucky, he sounds like a trainee brain surgeon relative to some of the idiots I have encountered.
Had one I asked to change engine oil on Hilux, after a few 50 mile jaunts I was wondering why the auto transmission was juddery at roundabouts turns out he drained the transmission oil but the best part was that when he dipped the engine oil and it read normal he googled the capacity then promptly added the new oil onto what was already in there. Strangely never a problem since 😵💫
As an aside, staff required for harvest £18 hour, nobody under 25 need apply.

Not as bad as a student where I used to work, drained the oil out of the engine of a tractor then started it up to turn the wheels so he could get better access to filler
was told a story by and old guy I know who spent years in the forces of a young lad being told to go and check the rads of a few trucks and top up with water if needed and instead filled the engines to the brim 😳

Maybe the college is at fault with their teaching methods
Our sparky was saying when he did day release, 25 years ago, each apprentice had bench space. They had to wire up a fuse board ( or whatever ) with the tutor checking what they did.

Now his apprentice sits & watches the tutor wire a fuse board, at the end told to take a picture of the finished job & put it in his file.

I know which method will produce the best results
