Macron floats European ‘community’ open to Ukraine and UK

I think Johnson's nuclear umbrella is really just gesture politics, so doesn't really count for anything much as neither country would be as high as the UK on Putin's attack list.. But the fact he went to sign and show support with them does lay a marker down to Putin. Although, Macron purportedly said to Putin at the start of the year, 'touch Finland and we will nuke you'.

It's difficult to tell how proactive France is actually being as they doesn't publicize much. Apart from supplying weapons and equipment, it does have a sizable joint contingent along with Belgium on the border in Rumania as well in Estonia and Norway with other Nato members. It also has a battle group in the Eastern Med that are patrolling Rumanian airspace. But you get the feeling Macron is probably holding back atm to buy Germany time to sort their stupid energy mess out.
It is a gesture and a commitment too, as it would / should have been from France; my chum's irritation is that it should have been France making the gesture, as an example of EU solidarity. Not heard of that threat from Macron anywhere else, any links?

I haven't had the feeling you mention regarding Macron's holding back; but, then, I'm not in France and it is a plausible explanation. I don't know but I guess that even Germany-loving Macron must be banging his head against the wall in exasperation at their lack of forethought regarding energy. But, even if it is so, my estimation is that any benefit it gains in Franco-German relations will be outweighed by the harm it is doing to relations between France and the Eastern states. We'll see...

...Another thing, the agreement to support Sweden , has Boris read it and does Boris want to renegotiate it when it doesn't suit him?
I guess it does suit him, which was why he did it. (y)

On the subject of sticking to things signed up to, do you think Macron will change his mind regarding Spain's breaking EU law and withdraw the support he gave for that breaking?

God help us all….Boris Johnson and the word “commitment”, in the same sentence, lauded as something you could take to the bank…. is there no end to the limits of what people will overlook when casting judgement on the man himself and the man as a politician?

I guess if people can overlook the murders that Adams and McGuinness were complicit in then Boris's efforts are easily forgotten
