Mag and Mang Products

Our soil type demands these trace elements as almost routine applications with fungicides, i'm sure that's a pretty common scenario for many UK farmers

What products are others using ? why that product ? and at what cost ?

Usually Opte-mag/mang from UAP/Agrii.

Ditto here.

Manganese is around 15% (Headland). 48 pence/litre last time I bought 1000 litres.

Optemag used at flag leaf and earwwash. I can't remember the strength but it was 52 pence/litre for 1000 litres.

Where I need copper as well as manganese (spring barley) I use Yara mixtures. Mancuflo for spring barley mixes well but is much more expensive.

@Chalky uses quite a few trace elements

Surprised there is as much saving on IBC now. When I looked previously there seemed little in it. Big savings were from cans to 200l drums (cost halved).

What are you using at the moment @Clive and how does it compare in price?

If you speak with one of the manufacturers they might be persuaded to make you up an IBC of whatever you want provided you order a couple of IBCs or something at a time.

Be ware of how they are formulated though- manganese carbonate is a slow acting kind of deal, manganese sulphate/nitrate is much much faster acting.

Have been using Maxi-phi M&M mang and mang product, its does a great job - not got prices to hand but I have a feeling it might be an expensive solution

Does just it come in cans, or barrels/IBC?

IIRC Steve's products used to be forumlated by Amega Sciences. Probably a great solution if needing a specific blend of nutrients for a high value horticulture crop etc. but I'd hazard a guess that like all micronutrients the selling price and ingredient cost are poles apart.

If your near a Omex site you can just take a couple of ibc's on a car trailer and they fill them while you wait (manganese nitrate) it's quite a cheap way of buying it as your not paying for the ibc's every time.

IBC's - we use a lot of this stuff, our low cec soils need spooon feeding mang and mag

Why buy water and plastic?

Buy the manganese sulphate powder and the Bittersalz. Bung some liquid N or ammonium nitrate in first.

And I've found my manganese problems on light land have diminished significantly since I dropped PDM entirely and cut back on DFF and flufenacet to the bare minimum at preem only.

They sell us stuff that creates a problem then they sell us more stuff to fix it. Autumn herbicides do lots of damage to cereals on light land, but they always blame manganese.

Most often it's just plain lack of N as well due to insane RB209 preventing Autumn N on cereals, except in Scotland of course who aren't so daft.
