Got the same as happycows. Seems good enough for farm use. Seems there made in Sheffield and you can order all the spare from them. (Handy if someone unplugs the extension lead with the drill still on the h-iron 8ft up) £199 plus vat when I ordered. Spaldings where £315 for the same one!

Aheeem!!! That's why you have the chain in the carrybox with them!!! No, we never use it either but I always insist that everyone magnetises the drill to the bench when not drilling with it as we had one that bounced off even though everyone had been warned. Bent handles was the worst that one suffered I think

Got this a few years back, it can drill up to 65mm hole, could probably get a 70mm cutter in there if needed.

I would always recommend one that can cut up to this size as it's surprised me how many times I've wanted to drill a hole between 40-60mm

I would recommend the JEI Solutions Mini Beast if you are not going above 30mm diameter.

Its cheap, small, lightweight and made within the EU (not UK)

But as far as I know the Evolution's and Rotabroach's mentioned above are now made in China, both sold from Sheffield companies but both imported from the far east.

If it don't say "Made in the UK" on it, it isn't, the "Made in" is the give away.

Depends, the drill itself might not be bad but get a good assortment of rotabroaches and you soon overstep the drill price.
I am told that euroboor is the business, good but expensive.

id imagine it would be suckin up a right few amps being on all the time, it id be getin warm of itself too id think.
would it even be good for a magnet to be running near constantly, i dont know is way i ask just.

as for a mag drill, the one i have here is bigger than the op wants, but in the link below you can look for something more your size.
unibor,
i have the one in the link, ive had it for 15 or more years and its never once missed a beat, its drilled a lot of holes from 12mm to 75mm for me and im well happy with the unit.
havnt used many other types so i cant comment more on them tbh.
