This place do some good stuff, http://holemaker-technology.com/ they sell Euroboor machines.

Especially their taps, can tap up to M24 or maybe M30 with a cordless drill, they have a video on their website.

Tapping video here

Those taps look the business. Are they really that good or is it a case of 5 holes and they're useless? I've got quite a lot of M10 holes to tap in 20mm plate.

I bought a second hand Magbroach at a sale which surprise surprise didn't work, but was able to get spares from Magbroach themselves who are UK based and very helpful, its been a good machine, would definitely get another.

get a metal bench, switch it ON , get a vice and bolt it down and the drill can be moved about.
thats about it..

you can go all fancy if you like....

Got a Rotabroach Scorpion here on a stand from a scrap pillar drill. Morse taper 3, reverse and tapping facility and cutters up to 100mm (according to the book), the max I use is 50mm. Stand is basically a socket clamped on to the tube of the original stand with a thick plate on for the magnet with something told hold the drill on there when the power is off so you don't knock it off accidently.
The only things I would say are that the switches for the drive etc are at the rear and not the easiest to reach if you need to stop it in a hurry and you must clamp what you're drilling down as you have not got the magnet of the drill to hold it right in relation to the cutter as it would in normal drilling. Now its out of warranty I may alter the switch panel so it faces forward

Also, remember to turn the magnet off when you're done, they get a bit warm otherwise!!

See above, not sure if i've quoted this quite right!!

That platform looks handy! Never see one like that before.

I assume it comes at a cost?

Any idea what sorta money that would cost @tinman?

Would be cheaper and better to buy an old pillar drill with a dud motor from a farm sale or ebay. Take drill off the top. Weld U channel on. Use that. Exactly what I did, although I think it was @Cab-over Pete who came up with the idea.

its pure luck its actually a scottish company, it could of been in india as quick.
its 205 quid powder coated which i guess is about what youd want for it if you were selling it so its not too dear i guess.

andrew hasnt a bad idea there tho with his sawn off drill...

Thanks for the heads up but I think your idea is better. I made a whole pillar up myself which, whilst possibly strong enough to drill a hole in a supertanker, it's a bugger to adjust!

Haven't done a huge number of holes so can't comment on life but the advantage is that most places would try and tell you you need a huge magdrill and an expensive tapping head or collet chuck to drill and tap up to M30.

When in actual fact you can use the standard 30-32mm small magdrill to drill the tapping hole in square (26.5 for M30) then follow through with one of these versa tapping chucks and a cordless drill.
I haven't done the big ones only smaller sizes but I've seen a demo of the big ones first hand, very impressive.

its not too often id need to tap a M30mm thread even tho i have the tap but thats just me.
the versa is a good enough idea ill give it that but have you priced it yet?

if a man wanted the diy version an impact step could be fashioned into one to fit a std tap, id say it id be a lot cheaper than mr versa.

They have their prices on their website like this
http://holemaker-technology.com/collections/versadrive

I suppose it depends how many holes you are tapping to make it worthwhile going for something like this.

If you are tapping 200 holes and it costs £50 then its £0.25 per hole.
If you are tapping 10 holes and its £50 it'll cost you £5 per hole.
