Mag drill recommendations

Did you get onto rotabroach to see how much one is from them, maybe tell them your plight n see if they would help a bit.
It's where I'd start anyways.

The trouble is it is five years old. It has done very little in that time and it is only now that I am starting to use it. I would say I had it five months before I used it and then it only drilled two or three holes and probably sat the same time again before it drilled another couple. The speed controller then started to act up one time and went back to normal plus I had other things on at the time so didn't look into it at the time plus it worked ok again. A while after that it just stopped controlling the speed and now it is running at the max speed. I am really disappointed in it given the amount of work that it done. I would see through it if it had done a lot of work

The first thing I did after getting mine was to make a stand with vice for it. Just an offcut of an RSJ. with drill vice bolted to it. Its now just as useful in the workshop as out side

Mine got a new speed controller a few weeks ago it’s done a bit of work but not a lot either tbh, I got new controller from magdrill.com where I bought the drill. The panther is a value for money machine but not the best machine as always the more you pay the better it is I suppose. Previous machine was a jancy minibeast which I think is a better tougher machine but on paper it is lower spec and dearer but imo a better machine (sadly it got burnt in a fire) the panther has a variable speed which I thought was better but in reality it is still too fast even at low speed hence burning out the speed controller. Not being negative the panther is a decent bit of kit but spend more and you will get more, Magdrill.com have a big range at decent prices and seem to be able to supply spares as well which can be important so there’s a plug for mr Magdrill.com ???

Good luck with Rotabroach, I don't rate them myself.

Rotabroach, Powerbor, Universal and Magtron are all one company now, they go under the OSL name.
Don't know about the rest but Rotabroach are definitely from China so I will be giving them a VERY, VERY wide berth from now on.
Whats made in China can stay in China for me.

Has anybody tried these Magdrills https://holemaker-technology.com/collections/versadrive-magnet-drills
I've not seen them anywhere, they are supposed to be Made in the UK.
I've had HMT hole cutters and they were pretty good.

I'd be interested if anyone has tried them, been thinking of getting a bigger drill for a while now.

£1,745 for the 125mm one, that id be plus vat id imagine.
Bit steep is it not...

i bought a unibor EQ100 about 15 yrs ago, iirc it was about £8-900 at the time, hasnt stopped yet.

We still like Rotabroach. We make a lot of steelwork up at the factory where I work, and we don't have a bad word to say about them.

we have a few in different sizes, best value for money is the Commando 40 - everyone likes it because it's just the right size and capacity for most jobs, and variable speed. I have one myself, drilled literally 100s of holes with it.
Also has through hole coolant, which I use if I have a load to drill in the workshop.
The Element range seem a bit feeble in comparison, only advantage is not having that power cable to snag.

Also - best lube in the world is HMT Speedlube, it foams and mostly stops exactly where you need it! I've tried loads of lubes and Speedlube is the only one IMO for in-position work.

maybe there is discount and that's a list price, even for the V100 it was 1,450 iirc which still leaves a fair bit in it, uk made tho so that's a plus, or maybe uk assembled..
the unibor most likely went up in price too so there mightnt be that much of a difference.

Not been on here for a while but I spotted this video the other day.
HMT TCT cutters vs what looks like one of those gimmicky rotabroach element machines, the one where you cant find the off button.
I've been using TCT cutters some of these and some other makes, they are impressive
Red drill sounds like its struggling if you listen to the motor.

Also it looks like the bloke on the right is trying harder, still impressive though.
