Lay off potash fertiliser applications. K blocks Mg uptake by the grass.

so these indices could be exasperating the situation?

I was told that you can spray a solution of Epsom salts onto the grass and it will be taken up by the plant through the leaf. There is no need to spray the whole field, just do strips and the animals can select the grass they want. I haven't yet tried it myself as we haven't had a problem with low Mg here but this year being what it is I might give it a go.

It also apparently has the side effect of killing the snails that host fluke....

Dust causmag on..??.. mag oxide.. calcined mag etc

Then you have time to wonder about this and that, best quick way to get mag out is dust it on their grass and daily or two-daily blocks, so they have no choice but to dip their noses... sometimes it is high levels of something locking up the mag, but not always.

Kieserite will apply Mag and your Sulphur requirements in one application.(y)

My ewes have suffered a bit with Calcium deficiency this last fortnight, with about 1% prolapsing (v.high for me) and about 10 that needed jabbing with Ca. I suspect that Ca problem is down to shortage of Mag more than anything else, although not short enough to see any staggers yet. I have had prolapses in every lambing field, apart from the one field that I dressed with 50 kg/ha of Kieserite with what was left in the spreader after I'd done the Winter barley.

Tried all sorts here but seem to loose 1% of ewes to staggers each year
Hi, we have a large range of different magnesium supplements for sheep including blocks, buckets and liquid feeds. https://www.rumenco.co.uk/products/sheep/post-lambing
Feed bucket options may be best, such as SUPAlyx Mag Booster and Beetlic Mag Booster, as they tend to be more palatable. Tecmol Mag Pal is also a mixture of magnesium and molasses which is very sweet and palatable. If you have any questions, then please get in touch with us https://www.rumenco.co.uk/contact-us

any discernible difference between ag salt and white gritting salt?

C B

Sorry, I don't know the answer to that. In theory it's the same & just down to what form you can apply it in. Road salt won't spread well from a fertiliser spinner at distance nor dissolve in an induction hopper. You & I did our FACTS course at the same time, so the knowledge will be the same! :D
