Magnesium tablets.....

Hi, I have always suffered with cramp when I chainsaw for long periods. I was advised to try taking 500mg of magnesium a day. I’m not one for tablets and pills but. My word. Spent 5 hours today cutting a huge Ivey hedge from 7ft down to 3ft. No cramp, nothing! Amazing . So if any of you suffer , try these. About £9-12 per month for a supply!

I started taking cheap supermarket mineral/multivitamins early this year - mostly as there was a suggestion it might help in preventing Covid. I won't be stopping - I can't believe how much better I feel. Took 2-3 weeks before I noticed any effect.

I must say the jury is out for me, I take multivitamins but the main benefit I have found is that they turn my first daily pee nearly luminous yellow.

BIG money in the health supplements industry, many billions, not a great amount of scientific research to back them up. They aren't cheap, either.

Spending another £10 a week to vary the weekly shop would probably benefit us all more in all honesty, more fruit and veg and variety.

Cut out sugar, cut out salt and get to bed at a set time each day and you will live better.

At least if my joints are clicking I know they've moved.

On medication for restless leg and not found MgO making a difference. Just got some chelated Mg to try.

My staggers seems to have cleared up though.
MgO won't, it's poorly absorbed. Citrate, malate or glycinate are the best absorbed. I use glycinate, I found citrate had too much of a laxative effect.

Salt really isn’t a problem, unless you’re one of those hypersensitive to salt. Humans naturally consume around 12-15 g/day but the health experts have scared everyone into thinking they’ll die if the eat more than 6g. It’s all based around the idea that salt influences blood pressure and that is the only thing of any importance. The issue is that if you eat less than 6g per day then your mortality rate goes up compared to 12g. And the really daft things is that if you restrict yourself to below 6g then you may move your blood pressure by 1 or 2% at most. Reducing sugar consumption has a much bigger effect with other benefits alongside. The Australians have removed salt as a nutrient of concern from their health recommendations. So much of health advice is beyond bizarre.

I’d link a metanalysis about this here for you but I’m away from my puter at the moment and so don’t have it to hand.

Edit, here is one study to get you started, remember that sodium needs to be multiplied by something like 2.5 to some to salt amount.

Quite glad this thread has come up again as I have something to add.

Be very careful taking magnesium tablets. They had a very adverse affect on my digestion system.

I was almost shitting myself every morning while taking them. To the point I had a box in my sprayer filling area to $h!te in.🤦‍♂️🤣

No way I would make it to a toilet.

Since I stopped taking them it hasn't happened.

Beware!

Magnesium citrate was it? I changed to a different form for the same reason, no problems since.
