Our trusty Isuzu went into limp mode the other day. A quick look under the bonnet showed there was a crack in the inter cooler. No problem I thought, it's got a five year warranty so we dropped it off at the dealership.

The service manager phoned the following morning to say that they'd discovered the fault and an inter cooler was needed (WOW). However as the pickup was now out of warranty we would have to pay £275 for parts plus labour. I told her that the vehicle had a five year / 125000 mile warranty. She promised me I was wrong but I told her to go and look in the rear window where there's a sticker that says five year / 125,000 warranty.

She then said she'd have to speak to her boss. She then phoned back to say that the vehicle came with a three year / 60,000 mile warranty with two years extended warranty for year four and five. However, we were really lucky in that the extended warranty did cover the inter cooler BUT they didn't have one in stock and they were on back order and should be in within a week.

Anyhow, fast forward a week and I get a phone call this morning to say the pickup was ready but that Isuzu had not yet confirmed if they would pay for the repair or not. I told her I was coming to get it anyway and that I had no intention of paying for the repair. She (service manager) then said she wouldn't release the vehicle if wasn't willing to pay.

I went down there straight away and went to the owners office. The service manager was already there. I told them what I thought of their customer service and attitude and drove the pickup home. I did tell the owner that if they or Isuzu insisted I pay for the repair, that I would pay but they shouldn't expect to see me back there buying another vehicle ever again.

The pickup has been very reliable and I would have bought another or recommended it to others without hesitation. Why do they think it's right to treat customers so badly. Can't they see further than their noses?

Sorry for the rant. Just had to blow off some steam.

Sounds like you wouldn't buy from them again even if they didn't make you pay. If they can suss this, they have nothing to lose but make you cough up.

We had the same problem with faulty air con on our 2 yr d max, dealer said it was not covered and we would be billed for the repair and regassing. I pointed out my displeasure and pointed out the 5yr warranty, mentioned it on here and contacted isuzu direct and surprise surprise it turned out it was covered. It was a result but still leaves a nasty taste in the mouth.

I do often think that when dealing with a lot of other trades that if I dealt with my customers how some people treat me I wouldn't have any customers or a business left, some of them are just shocking.

Yes bought it new from them. They're only seven miles down the road. Tbh it's the service manager that rubs everyone up the wrong way. She just has an abrasive attitude and you can't help but fall out with her.

I would buy another as long as they don't expect me to pay for this repair. The owner is a pleasant enough lad. He just needs to teach his staff how to talk to customers. I'm not the only one who's had run ins with the service manager.

Do you think they are claiming the warranty and chancing their arm at getting you to pay too?

That's true. I have known her for years, her parents used to own our local garage. She did them no favours whilst she was there either. Funnily enough, some days she's good as gold. Other days :mad::mad::banghead::banghead::banghead:

I phoned a ford dealer a few months back for a price, the girl was very rude and clueless, so I phoned back to complain, and the price dropped a couple of grand. Got my phone bill through that month, and I'd been charged over £5 in calls to the garage number! Phoned them up when I found their local number and never heard back. How the feck do they ever sell anything?

What worries me with these warranties (we also have an Isuzu) is that they are initially a great sales pitch but by the time you may need a claim, say in yr 4 or 5, they'll try and wriggle out of them because one of your annual services got stretched to 14 months or some other such nit picking reason.

These firms must get their sales far too easily to be able to treat their customers like that.

Yes they do. Another mug walks through their door every few minutes.

I was at the local Land Rover dealer the other day with a specification that I wanted for a Disco Sport. I mentioned the NFU discount, and the saleswoman was OK. Or so I thought. It turns out she spun a blatant lie to try and pressurise a quick sale. That's twice too many times that dealer has buggered me about now, so although I was ready to do a deal, they can forget it. That's it!

Since there are no other LR dealers within 60 miles or more, and I don't fancy buying a LR from that far away, that's LR out of the running pretty permanently as far as I'm concerned.

I'm sure they will all miss my custom terribly. NOT. There's probably been a dozen mugs in since me that have swallowed her lies and bought.

No thanks. We have an old 200 tdi here which is pretty bulletproof but the later ones were quite unreliable and outdated.

No wonder they don't like dealing with farmers with the likes of you and I about? ;)

I'm sure the rest of the population must be very gullible compared to us farmers. I suppose it's because we buy and sell a lot more often than your average man or woman on the street.
