All ploughed up, limed, subsoiled and ready. Going to be drilling on Sunday .. under plastic contractor & God willing.

And very tempted to take 5 acres of IRG too as it's the length of my arm

And your on boys ground!(y)

Some of it is a Frome Series alluvial silt. In english it ploughs like sticky Plasticine with flints in it. its either too wet or too dry to get a decent seedbed. The rest has had all the FYM spread. One rented field needs glyphosate. TB test next week so not a huge amount going to be ploughed just yet.

stubbles still to spray off.....been poor spray days.(few docks -else i would save a cost and time ) - but still seems far too cold here - what/where is the best value (cheap) soil temperature probe ?? - as a matter of interest.

What should it be when considering maize drilling?
10°C and rising, hopefully!!

It can't all be drilled on the same day, some people are brave and Drill at 10°C regardless. Some Drill when there's warmth forecast.

Then when it's about 4-6" high it turns cold!!

Soil is far too cold here. Haven't even got my themometer out yet. Haven't ploughed a field yet either.

The soils temperature at St Neots has reached 9.5 Celsius but the ground is still ver wet over 40% but this is on really heavy land

I have a couple of these. Freebies from some agchem meeting. They need a couple of minutes to settle down. I put the tip in 4" and have a mark where this is level with the surface.
