Having to salavge some storm flattened maize before we get more rain on it. With 88 mm of rain in a day and strong winds, it has taken a battering. Once we get the headlands done we will have to cut one way only. It could really do with another week or 10 days for maturity, but cannot risk any more wind or rain on it.

Looks a good bit of kit but not exactly a direct drill? Must cost a fair amount per acre?
Far less than power harrow and drill combo. The spill of soil from the cultivated slot makes it look as though it is doing more work than it really is. There are only 4 sets of blades on the rotavator, we converted it from an old 60" machine using old irrigation borehole pipe. The Duro unit now has Metcalfe legs with tungsten tips which last well even on our abrasive soil.

AD boys were on the A303 past Illminster last night. All Fendts and big trailers, looked a smart crew. Not sure I would be brave enough to take a tri-axle silage trailer down that road full up, even at night...
There were 3 different crews on , AD lot were one, we were the other and another large dairy farm the other. The tri axle compactor is run by the other dairy unit apparently went over the weigh bridge a smidge heavy ;) We had 12 trailers on that day..... god knows how many movements up and down all 3 of us made!!

Triaxle compactor. Is that it's official name or just a nickname?

Thanks to our contractors, we finished 850ac yesterday. Completed in 5.5 days with record yields, averaging bang on 20t/ac at 32%. DM’s ranged from 26-38% with most being bang in the middle. This is a field of Keops , which is the best crop we’ve ever grown averaging 23t/ac over 75ac.
Lots of different varieties and maturity classes, but the common factor for good yields was the soil type and fertility.
Had 11m so far today, another 25mm o the way. At least we’ve got the clamps covered, the WW drilling might have to wait a few days...
