What are the new ones like? There was a big push a few years ago and they were awful.
I think most people find them ok, we are one of only two farms in Europe that have the oxygen barrier degrade between cuts! Has happened for three years now, but sheet is/ was replaced FOC.

When would you be thinking of feeding the maize? I'm thinking of growing 20-30 acres next year, mainly because it doesn't need bagged nitrogen and bulk wise there's not a lot that can compare - especially if you can do an early first cut!
I'm thinking I could possibly cut the cake out of my youngstocks diet next winter if I make some red clover silage alongside it to bring the protein up as well
Then feed to anything still in milk at the end of the grazing season and possibly again in spring 2023 when they start calving but grass growth isn't quite there yet

Much the same, I'll feed maize through autumn then again February and march when there's still plenty of protein coming from graze grass.

Contractor said a lot of their farms were keen to get on this year but now have effluent running out their pits, he reconned we were about spot on,all pot luck as iv never grown it before and have know idea what I'm doing!
Ours said the same, people got caught out last year and panicked this Autumn. 45 minute drive home with the chopper one day and the wet was still running out of it when they got to the yard.
