Cheers, was asking for a friend of a friend whos gamecrop has been overtaken by weeds. I pulled up the pdf but wondered if people altered the advice much.

By the sounds of the maize wants to be sprayed at or near the maximum label dose.

It is worth knowing that with weedy maize crops it is very important to take the weeds out very rapidly, in this situation, the addition of a modest amount of fluroxypyr or dicamba to a tank mix can give a rapid melt down but it is potentially harder on the crop.

Drove past a field of maize near Axminster out in tassel. Also drive past a field near Bridport on the coast that would not be any good for game cover. Rest looking dark green and growing well. Perfect hot weather crop.

Maize is up to 6' in places now, no sign of tussles yet, is that a bad thing?
The only spray was on the grass before Ploughing, pleased with how its looking for weeds!

How tall would that be? I'm guessing what's they start tassling the plant stops growing?
But if they don't tassle soon I'll be looking at a late harvest?

Not entirely sure how tall. Only had a quick look while passing hauling straw yesterday. I’d say it will still grow a bit. You planted yours later so its expected to be a little bit behind at all stages.

Depends on numerous things, variety, nutrients,weather, soil type blah,blah,blah

You can harvest it when ever you want. But whether it will be properly fit by then, who knows?!

If I harvest it early and its not 100% ready what will I end up with in the clamp?

A heap of not 100% ready maize…lower dry matter, lower starch. Basically a heap of maize that is a higher ratio of fibre to energy than it should be.

Mines behind yours and I’ve never grown maize before but I’m fairly happy I think that it won’t be too late to drill some forage rye behind. So don’t stress nothing can be done

I wouldn’t worry about it. Wait until nearer the time. You might be pleasantly surprised.
