Seem to be quite a few crows on mine when I go look at it. It has been a terrible year around here for crows on bales too from what I've heard. A few hours from baling and the bales are like pepper pots, but you can only shift so many an hour and if you have a hundred or so to shift they are going to get pecked unless you have a good fleet of trailers.

Just returned from a walk around my maize. The noise of the crows as I approached meant I was dreading what I would find at the other side of the field. Actually.... no real crop loss at all. There were beak marks all over the place between the rows, but it looks like they've just been pulling the sods up. It was what I considered to be a terrible job of ploughing if not for a dose of glyphosate to kill the docks, shallow ploughed after grazing this spring, after being cultivated and harrowed a few times so lots of fluff wasn't buried even before the power harrow came along. Basically I wanted a lot of the old pasture to be mixed up with the FYM at a depth for the maize roots to grow into initially. It looks like that old turf is keeping the crows happy, and they are leaving the maize shoots alone, for now.
