Have you grown maize with it in a normal year? Because you could have put maize seed on with a fert drill direct into a grass lay and grown a good crop this year... have seen some awful and very expensive sh!t drill jobs out of corn drills and muzuri drills in normal years... also chopped some drilled with a corn drill this year it looked a good 8ft tall crop but the cobs were tiny and resulted in a yield of approx 8 ton to the acre ..

Really!!!!
Try it at seven hundred feet on heavy clay. And a few thousand rooks.
The crop drilled with the LDS yielded 34 t/ha
Crops drilled with lots of cultivation and precision drill yielded between 26t/ha and 41t/ha.
Some behind the precision drill had to be re drilled due to rooks.
5 year average is 33t/ha

It was an old Howard 60" machine which we widened, and removed un-needed blade carriers

Do you have any panning issues with using rotovator l shaped blades??
Would a rotospike be a better option

We were recommended rotospike but had a conventional machine so used that. The leg in front would also be better behind for panning concerns, but we have been pleased with performance over the past two seasons. Can you get spikes to fit standard rotors?

Not sure but would think you could pick a rotor spike pretty cheap

This is the problem. Most farms have a plough and powerharrow so that is what they choose to use to establish their maize.
