Maize Harvest

How do everyone’s crops look?
We’ve got 800 acres to harvest with some good crops looking like they could do 16t, but we’ve also got some which will struggle to hit 8t!
I can see some crops being ready in 2-3 weeks which is a lot earlier than usual, mostly down to disease starting to creep up the plants.
The problem we might have is that the cobs might not be mature, but worried that the rest of the crop might be completely dead.
I look forward to hearing how great peoples crops look, but I’d accept a 13t average if I could now!
Interesting times!!

Maize is all over the place this year. Some did nt get drilled to june though and some only germinated in july. So looking around, early driĺled by far the best and not far off normal down to 4 ft high just coming into tassle stage with 2 leaves baby plants inbetween. The AD plant I spray for hopes for 12 tonne average this year (1200ac) but think they will struggle.Good job they have 5000 tonnes of maize and rye from last year

Our maize looks good, it has done well with the sun / drought. It all had plenty of muck under it.

I looked at some last week & it's at the sweet corn stage.
We will cut some later this week or early next as the cows are about to run out, enough to keep them going until the crop is ripe enough to harvest properly
We usually harvest late September / early October so this year looking a moth early

First field in the clamp, Emmerson drilled 24 April yielded 15.3 tonnes/acre at 36% dry matter (average of 6 oven dried samples). Hard to believe the dry matter for first week of Sept, but oven dried at 105°C to constant weight, 6 reps from 33.77 to 37.6%

How far are they moving maize/rye from field to plant? What kind of rent do they pay? Must make it hard for other farmers to compete for land in West Somerset?
