Had our best maize cover crop behind the Mzuri, can’t put any fert with ours yet. I’m sure you’re aware of all the stuff Martin at Mzuri is doing regarding maize, I think if you look on the Springfield farm website there’s a bit about it.

I drilled some into cultivated ground as an experiment last year, mainly to see how the spacing and bunching worked out. Tramlines at 12m with the idea of a tanker applying digestate but it didn't end up getting any. Yield was ok, a ton or so less than the conventionally drilled stuff but went in a month later than it and the drought that followed, customer was happy but forager driver didn't like it apparently as it wasn't easy to follow the lines like a precision drill. No starter fert applied just plenty of chicken muck, my notes say 32k seeds but I'm sure it was closer to 36 or 38. Sown 22-5-18

I did a bit with the DTS a few years ago. It was fine, gone back to combi which is also fine. I don't see the drill as a major factor in maize growing and haven't seen any advantage in placing fert. Muck, no compaction and no weeds, that's all you need to do for decent maize.

@E_B has done some I believe.

Thanks. Posted some photos in the DD gallery over the last couple of years. Will try and post some thoughts when I'm next on the computer. Basically, it worked well on loamy ground, less well on the clay bits. This was was particularly the case when drilling after a lot of volunteers or a cover, which suck all the moisture out. Also slugs behind cover where we've never seen slugs before. This year we are doing about 20%of our total area as strip till, it will be behind an EFA cover which we need to get sprayed off asap ready for drilling at the start of May.
