The forum is full of threads that are unhappy with the way the NFU is run, it's handling of Red Tractor, it's ambivalence towards it's members.

Everybody has a view of what they think should be done but who (if anyone) is actually going to do something?

There appears to be two alternatives..........

1. Drastic reform of the existing NFU.

2. The formation of a new organisation (that will become so well supported that it will take over from the NFU.

So, to try and get a feel for the numbers here's a straw poll.

**due to 'popular demand' (well @An Gof 's anyway) an extra option was added after the first 25 votes.

Think you need a further option.
I am an NFU member but will only continue my membership if there is significant and real reform to take more account of want individual members say and want .... bottom up NOT top down.
Done, but I've had to paraphrase it a bit to get it to fit in the box.

Another box for: 'I'm an NFU member but would support a new organisation as well, at least until I could see whether it was a complete waste of time when all those complainers still didn't put the effort in to get involved'?
Sorry @neilo and @Steevo but we've now gone past the editing moratorium :X3:

That's why I suggested, on the other thread, that somebody with brains did a post with a vote

bit militant for you yella:oops:....i always thought you a placid soul😁😁
Still waters, Spin, still waters....

Dad was in the NFU and he was one of the first in Red Tractor (judging by our membership number).

I've personally never been a member - don't think the NFU have had a good bloke since Henry Plumb.

I dumped RT years ago after.....

1. Watching our RT lambs being mixed with non RT lambs as they were loaded out of the mart for slaughter .

2. Combining and storing non RT grain for a neighbour (who was seriously ill) and seeing that the wagon drivers had got RT passports for it when it left here .

Funny how you derided me/ made fun of me a few years ago @An Gof when i posted my views on the NFU which you did not agree with at the time but now you have the same views as i did ref the NFU policy's/ top down/ RT policy/ lack of accountability etc etc as your own business intrest's are now being badly affected by said NFU policy's!

Just a shame senior NFU people like yourself made fun of instead of listening to people like me a few years ago!!

As for a new organization, complete waste of time if it gets infected by current NFU regional or national office holders/staff it would need a clean sweep and new blood from top to bottom!

As for you quitting the NFU An Gof, all hot air!! you will NEVER quit the NFU!

What did you do to protect the integrity of the "brand" you signed up for?

It just proved that there was f@ck all integrity to protect, so I decided to stop throwing good after bad and in the best words of the Dragons Den said, "I'm out".
Only sell sheep nowadays so have not noticed any difference.

If you follow the market reports you'll see it's borne out by the figures.

RT?

I’d guess many don’t feel the need to protect the integrity of the brand because they feel they have been conscripted rather than signed up for membership and as such feel resentment towards RT

So if you saw someone doing something that would be farming under the microscope in the press you would stand back and let your business be affected?

Tesco's mislabeling is another example, and we all know how farmers love a winge and moan about that sort of thing!

I’m nit sure what you have in mind but if it were something the press took an interest in and if they reported the matter accurately it should only put that particular farm in the frame.
Should they decide to tar all farms with the same brush that would be bad reporting.

I have never actually reported a fellow farmer for any wrong doing although there are certainly some who deserve to have a bit of karma catch up with them, just as I have never reported a fellow driver on the road despite often seeing drivers speeding, on the phone, not wearing seat belts etc etc.

Does that make me a bad person?
Do you make a habit of reporting others?
