Has anyone else had their grain merchant on the phone to tell them that the malting barley contract for harvest movement we’ll the Maltsters decided he won’t be coming to take it after all and if I need it to go at harvest it will cost me £10 a ton. Can just imagine this if it was the other way around !!!!!!

No it could go as feed it’s just barley. I think the issue here is I’ve had a so called contract for 10 months for this barley and now I either take a £10 ton hit or get left with it till who knows when and I don’t have the space for it anyhow!!

From what the merchant told me they can shift it to store at harvest for a £10 a ton charge there’s nothing to say it will go to store once it leaves the farm for all I know it could go straight to the malting day a reduced rate

Not if you've got another variety and you mix it all together, thatll fudge them.

The whole malting barley trade is a corrupt farce. We grew nothing but malting barley for decades and I shudder to think how many times I've seen dad and grandad furious when they've had a phone call regarding there barley. It's always in there terms regardless of what the contract says, fudge the lot of them it's all feed now and we cart most of it straight into the mill.
