Both mine are homemade one is just under 15' wide and the other 7'6",both were made by my brother who's a coded welder,my stance is they are far more legal than a bucket or "tatty box" and far safer than ladders.

But still not legal, however safe or sturdy they are.

I better remove my stickers then.:)
I would be very concerned about a 15 foot wide cage
While I am sure it is perfectly safe for a man to be wondering about in it, if any amount of weight was put on one side the effect would be magnified as the cage was lifted making the whole machine dangerously unstable.
It is unlikely that the sensors on the machine would pick this up, and it may tip with no warning, particularly if that side of the machine caught soft ground
Take care

The wide basket is fitted with q-fit brackets,so a direct fit to avoid the movement of forks.

I only really use the big basket for putting purlins up in inaccessible areas,I have a scissor lift and always use that 1st as its far easier and doesn't tie up an extra man.:)

I don't do legal,I do common sense.

Absolutely spot on! I built myself 1 this winter as we have quite a few repair jobs to do round the place and I am perfectly happy with it, its me going to be standing in it and I trust my workmanship! It wont be getting any CE mark or certification and when not in use its not on show for people to have a nosey round and ask any questions about it. Its high time in this sorry state of a country that all these jobs worth idiots got a grip and realised common sense should be the 1st line of defense against any situation, just because the green man is showing at a pelican crossing doesnt mean you can disregard the obvious common sense of checking both ways before stepping off the curb!! Its rediculous.

Unless the cage falls apart how can it be more dangerous than using a ladder ? Never seen a safety cage round a portable ladder to stop you falling off, even fixed ladders only have a hoop round to stop you falling backwards but can still slip all the way down the rungs

Ours had its 6 monthly inspection last week. Apparently as they are illegal in the rest of europe they can no longer sport a CE mark, as that would be a contradiction.....and also we should expect them to be banned altogether within 5 years. Whatever happened to assessing risk and choosing the appropriate tool for the job?
