So this ageing manitou had a Perkins engines which fills the sump with (I assume) fuel. I have known a Nuffield do it in the past😂. Is there a most probable fault and if so is it a viable fix? At the moment I just change the oil pretty often🙄

They sound feasible 👍
The mechanic of 20 years at Ricards has started on his own and is coming out tomorrow so I wanted an idea to have a conversation about planning this job🤔
Almost certainly is , question is ......... is the pump timed or not , my jcb isn't but my 40 series are timed .

Hello

It may well be the injector pump but could also easy be the cold start plug. Take the plug out then put the pipe back on it and pump the lift pump. There should be no dribbles from it.

Should have a drain/leak hole i think on the lift pump so will leak external?

I like cheap and simple solutions so have gone for the lift pump first. Have the new pump now, I can’t see any drain/leak hole in this new one, which I take as a good thing😊👍.
It will take a long time to know if it’s cured but hopefully when we change the pump we will find the old one has a tear or some such

The leakage/drain hole is on the injector pump, not the lift pump.

I've seen some old lift pumps with drain holes I'm sure.

Later injector pumps 1004 onwards have drain holes fairly sure the older 1000 series as in ops case don't.

Its unlikely lift pump problem anyway, thermostart plug or injector pump.
