I have 08 628 and I’ve noticed that when loading out grain the hydraulics seem to putting the loader under pressure… only when the bucket is full … seems to feel like it’s nearly going to stall the engine … No problem with hydraulics when no pressure on them .. ie no grain in bucket… All oils and filters are changed at recommended service intervals..Any ideas what could cause the loader to labour ? Thank you.

Probably needs a new throttle pot switch and ball joints then a recalibration.

Untill that is done there is no point looking else where, although before a recalibration can be done the throttle has to be working right. 900rpm idle and max 2450rpm and then back to idle nicely. If its not doing that then you cant calibrate it anyway.

Thanks Ace for the response… my own dealer had mentioned torque converter? … That would sound expensive!!

Well a bad converter is a possiblity too, but you need to rule out the common stuff first and make sure the hydraulics are actually working correctly, then you can start looking at other things such as converter.

TBH a bad converter will show up on a simple stall test of transmission with out even using hydraulics.
Hold machine on brakes in 3rd gear and set what max rpm you get too, there will be a rpm rating for this in a book somewhere but at a guess around 2000rpm would be good.
Do not do this for more than a few seconds 10 MAX. As this will overheat the oil in the converter. you do not need to operate hydraulics while doing this and dont blame me if something along the transmission input shaft breaks cause they do like to break bolts and rubber donuts and the output shaft on the hyd pump dont they @Timbo even just with normal use :X3:

Hey Ace , Nothing has happened since my last comment… between one thing and another the Dealer mechanic is to call this week with a host of parts including potentiometer !… I was wondering about buying a second hand loader … back up !
Which of the manitou side mount and year would you recommend? … Need something to lift 1.5 -2 T loading Lorries and pushing up grain with a pusher … Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated 👍

Mlt 634 or 735 120 LSU
Newer the better, ideally 2010 onwards so last of perkins common rail, I would then maybe skip the merc engined one unless mint or jump to the deutz engined ones pre new shape cab unless the budget allows.

Avoid the early V plus models too, probably need to jump to 2021ish? For the better V plus gearbox.

MLT 627 probably not much cop at pushing grain tbh boom pivot not as strong so using a pusher wouldn't be ideal.

Old MLT 628 or mlt 728 IF can find one that not trashed be okay as an older 2nd loader

I don't rate the newer compact mlt 630 105 type due to bad design of bearings on 90 deg gearbox (different 90deg gearbox to mlt 634 etc) multiple part number changes to the gearbox but I doubt it's cured, bearings not shimmed and spin loose in housing causing converter drive flexi plate to rip the centre out.

I still think the MLT 628T was about the best loader manitou ever made but its nearly impossible to find a decent one to buy now due to age.

i can pick faults with all colours though :ROFLMAO: :X3:
