A Friends Manitou 735 120 LSU year 2005 has bust the tilt ram pipe in the boom have not had time to look at it up close yet. From a quick google am I right in thinking that they can be replaced with out taking out the boom and to only use the special Manitou twin pipe replacement part.

As above. Don't part the boom dealers will say you need too. As I remember from last year. Take mirror plate off back slide boom out to max extension de couple at front tie strong to front pull out from back gap in underside of boom it's a bit tight to get hands in but easy enough, think you may need something with a hook on it (pins from hurdles are good) the re assembly takes a bit more thinking about, as the various obstacles it goes around its a bugger to get it back over the top holder half way up the boom a 3m length of batten will help with this slide it up boom underneath the pipes and a bit of messing about with some well timed pulling at front and it will jump up.

It becomes very tight when you attach it at the bottom and I can't remember if this was done before putting it up the boom.

Now when it's all attached you can retract boom with it and make sure pipes are all in correct places down sides.

One other thing is I think we detached the boom ram to give us more space, and pulled the manitou boom out to the stops with another machine then pushed it back in again, hence making sure pipes are out the way

Pipe isn't cheap either I'm afraid.

Sorry the instructions aren't very clear but I will say its one of the easier repair jobs and not as bad as it looks

For starters that's not a 2005 model its a 2008 onwards. (can tell from the headlights colour of cab step and the major giveaway is the dash board!

No you don't have to remove the boom section. Here goes, Hope your English is good!

Remove access panel on rear of boom. Disconnect pipes under front of boom and remove internal clamp.
Undo pipes from tilt ram or aux, get a male hydraulic fitting, thread the string though it then tie a knot in the string so it cant pull though screw the fitting on to the end of the hyd hose and remove hose from the boom.
Use the string to pull new hose back in but on 7metre manitous you normally have to remove the tilt ram pin and lower the ram down. easy way to do this is to ideally have the ram almost fully in (headstock tilted nearly right over) remove the tilt ram pin, and manually roll the headstock round which will draw the ram out of the boom and then you can hinge the ram down out of the way. This is by far the easiest way of removing the tilt rams on all the manitous.

With the ram out of the way you can get your hand up there and guide the though the bracket on the neck of boom, later booms have a clamp up there too for the aux which would need to come off if its aux your doing.

Only ever fit genuine pipes single pipes wont last 2 minutes. also order pipes using serial number but also double check the part number of the old pipes that is stamped in the ferrule of the pipe but do not go by old pipe part number alone just in case some one been in there before and fitted wrong ones.

Take care to get the pipes laying nicely by the side of the tilt ram or they will rub though in no time, also once fitted alter the angle of the 90 deg bend on the tilt ram to lengthen or shorten the hoses so that they don't rub in the back of the boom on the extension ram mountings when boom fully in but also don't want too much clearance there as they will rub on the back of the inner boom instead.

No no no, only extend the boom about 4 " no more, you need access to the rear to guide the pipes in to a box section up in side the boom, will be a nightmere to do it with boom fully extended!

Hi
I have an 840 which needs new 3rd service carriage pin pipes. As the connection is half way down th e inside of the boom, It looks like the ram will slide out the back to change the pipes?

Oh an 840🤦‍♂️
Never seem to hear good things about these for some reason!

I've not done it but I believe there is a nut on the rod end of the extension ram you undo and the ram slides out the back.

Do not slide the ram out the front with boom cause if its configured like a 13m version you will rip out the steel pipes/tray and they are over £1k each🤦‍♂️ had someone ring me about that on a 13m couple days ago! Costly mistake for him!

If you send me details I can help with parts and drawings.
