My manitou has burst a hose going to the 3rd service just inside the front of boom . does anyone that has the same model know whether you have to take the hose out the full length of boom or does it join anywhere before that.

The hoses are Siamese and joined to together there whole length. Two ends on the inside of the swan neck where you have the leak and the other ends are the 90 ends that join to the metal pipes that run under the boom.
Not to bad to do undo swan neck end and tie some string to one hose. The other ends undo from the metal pipes there should be a pipe clamp to prevent you pulling the hoses out if there undo 8mm bolt and pull hoses put a bit the clamp will drop out. Now you carefully pull the hoses out. I take the air filter assy off behind the engine to allow you to feed the hoses over the back of the boom. Once out swop your string on to new hoses and push down the boom, pull the string to allign to come along the top. Be easier to feed pipes round by hand with air filter off. Then reassemble.

That sounds too simple lol will give it a go tomorrow, does the boom need to be fully extended before you start ? Anyone ever use reusable hydraulic fittings that screw onto the pipes?

Yes the screw on ones won't stand the pressure that forklift can put on it

I don't extend them too far foot or so. I only fit genuine hoses. Looking at the red paint on the hose I bet its still on the original pair. Not a good idea to use screw on ones but could get you going. If you Tele in them undo the hoses you may have enough slack to pull the damaged end out to try a end on it without removing them. They are metric s fitting.

Yes think they are the original hoses, thanks very much for the replies saved me some work, anyone know where I could get a workshop manual for it

I can probably send you a PDF on what ever you require but there isn't exactly a complete PDF that covers every thing they are all in sections and cover lots of models. What would you like to know?

I doubt you will re-end them old hoses they are not ordinary 2 wire hose. when you cut them they will fray no matter how you cut them or what with, making it very hard to get a ferrule on them. I have done it before a couple of times to get out of the poo but to stand a chance you need a single wire hose fitting so it will crimp down tight enough, you cant just chop a bit off and shorten it either as they are twin hoses ie glued together the whole length of the boom so you will have to add a bit on. imo its not worth the hassle as it will only be a tempory fix anyway. New hoses are expensive but when fitted correctly last a long time hence yours are still original on what would be a 1997 to 1999 machine.

Send me a PM with your location and serial number and I will get you a price on them and see what PDF's I have got covering your machine.
