What is the purpose of this fitting? It screws into the end of the spool valve block ( lower end with washer round it screws in). There is an insertin the open end which rotates but doesn’t come out. All it seems to do is just leak a steady drip of oil out onto the floor. Should there be a cap screwed on to seal it? Have replaced it with a blanking plug and all seems fine.

Thanks. That makes sense. Looks like it should self seal shut but has failed and is leaking. Protective cap also missing. So hopefully I should be OK just replacing it with a threaded plug.

Yes they should seal themselves, much like a tyre valve. I would say you won't have any bother blanking off

Should have one of these on it, but as said blanking won't be a problem.
