Thought all ag vehicles were on zero road tax ,
Was it bought new or new to you? If the former I'd ask dealer why it's been registered as a special vehicle, surely it should've been done as an Ag vehicle.
We had same problem with our old Ford digger we bought as a back up loader. Sent the dvla a letter and pictures of the digger doing farm work and they changed its tax to agricultural machine
Could be a mistake on the dealers part filling in the original paperwork or the DVLA. Shouldn't cost you though - especially if you paid the dealer for first registering it on your behalf. It's new to use so will see what dealer says about it
I'm surprised they did that with a (presume) backhoe type digger. Not got one, but have heard they were getting quite strict and no longer allowing them to change to a zero rated tax class. We had same problem with our old Ford digger we bought as a back up loader. Put adaptor plate on front to take the loader buckets and sell the proof pictures I sent had dung grape or bale spikeI'm surprised they did that with a (presume) backhoe type digger. morning all
just gone to tax the Manitou on the dvla site and its saying it will cost £165 for the year?
my question is can I change the taxation class as its down as a special vehicle rather than a ag machine
thanks
Often get this its probably a building site spec machine originally sold to a hire company or building contractor.
Had a customer earlier this year that had a old manitou 1998 that was registered as such and customer didnt even have v5 log book even though he has owned it for past 10 years or more was never a problem as he never needed to drive on roads. He contacted dvla and filled in the relevant forms to get a reolacement v5 and change of tax no problem just so he could drive it half hour up the road to my workshop for some repairs.
So it can be sorted easy enough.
Ahhh. That makes sense then. No mistake. Just genuinely registered in the correct class (for its initial use). You need to apply to DVLA to change the tax class as said.Yes it can from a quarry so same problem I will contact dvlA and see what happens
In that situation SORN is the way to go, rather than trading brickbats with DVLA when "computer says no" on reclassifying them.Bought a JCB 406 loading shovel,no V5 so applied to dvla for one, duly sent to me.
One previous owner, registered as a (mowing machine) ! Went to local post office who taxed it as zero road tax all good I thought.
Few weeks later a letter arrives from from good old Swansea SA99 saying it needed reclassified for tax purposes and I would have to write to them describing what I was using it for and a photograph of the machine showing its registration number attached, this I duly complied with saying it was only used for feeding stock large bales of silage(picture was taken in farm yard).
Two or three weeks later letter arrives back saying NO,that will be £165 thank you if you still require it taxed!
As I have no need to use it on the public highway it's now on a SORN.
