Map apps

Anyone got an app that they can use to store info on drains and water pipes etc, I want to plot the location of a couple joints I may need to find in the future. Ideally by not going through them with the digger!

I have a metal detector so maybe burying a chunk of scrap next to the pipe will do. Any other ideas appreciated...

I use planimeter pro for measuring areas and marking plots, very hand as it measures as you move the cursor then you can save the shapes etc

Hey Andrew - where did you get with this - www.fieldmargin.com is due out very soon and will do exactly this! Make a note of all permanent features and make working maps of your farm with things going on day-to-day. Share with everyone (temp or permanent) so no one tries ploughing stuff up...

We've marked them with the Trimble on the tractor.

And have buried bits of scrap aluminium on top of the chambers for metal detector serches.

Ha you must spend most of your time refusing updates - they can really nag you... Other apps stop working eventually if you don't keep up to date.
Let me know if you brave it - would love feedback.

@RobFM I have just been giving your app a try and it seems a good idea. First stumbling block for me though is that the map doesn't seem to be available offline. Initially it said it was d loading 109mb of tiles but seemed to complete at 90 odd if that helps?

I've had similar problems to @milkloss, not managed to download the full map of the farm I have tried a couple of times but just put it down to snail pace broadband

Thanks for taking the time to have a go. Have fed this back to the team immediately and is being investigated as we speak.

For now you should be able to fix this if you open the app (when you're on a good connection - ideally wifi) on the farm that's incomplete, click the cog top right, switch off offline and then switch it back on - this will trigger another attempt.

Please let me know how you get on - we are expecting a new version through the app store within a week.

Hopefully your phones should have automatically updated to the new version of the app, but if you're unsure, just re-install fieldmargin from the app store (our app store link is here: http://apple.co/2cvVNE3)

That doesn't sound right - I'll pop you a DM for some more info so hopefully we can get to the bottom of it!

Whenever there's an update we'll let you know in an email what has changed, and you can also check what's new in our listing on the App store. The plan is that we'll have lots of different map imagery for you to choose from in the future, but for the time being, viewing older imagery isn't something you can do.
