looking at different mapping software and I have had a play with a few of them. So far Omnia seems intuitive and easy to use.
What are people's views on these packages?
I currently have gatekeeper and the mapping but I'm looking at moving to some different recording software.

I have used GRASS GIS for projects in the past, it can be tricky to get it set up but it allows you to do anything you'd like to do. And possibly a lot more.

...apart from any compliance reports.

Other than that I've heard great things about omnia.

Have had a demo of green light grower which I was quite impressed with. Nothing apart from gatekeeper seems to have the ability to store GPS data though which is important for me.

Have tried everything and concluded that if I wasn't using gatekeeper I would use Omnia. It has good functionality and compatibility and keeps improving. That said I will be sticking with gatekeeper, I use it extensively and get a lot from it as a result. Recently came across "normalised variation" mapping in gatekeeper which is just another tool in the box and was a big reason for trying omnia's mapping in the first place.

I just don't get on very well with gatekeeper to be honest. Do you know if Omnia can store AB lines etc?

did you look at or consider gatekeeper express? I know we all want to get away from farmplan but it appears to be a lot better (similar to omnia in its interface). I dont know how it works but think it might be a separate package thats not synced with "old" gatekeeper.
A-B lines on our machinery are all compatible with each other so I don't really need to bring them into gatekeeper anyway.

I haven't tried it but guess I should have a look. I've had a month demo of green light grower and have been really impressed.

Bit of an update. Omnia is great but for my acerage will cost me 5k a year! Gatekeeper can do everything it does and much more for a 1/5 of the cost so I think I am better off sticking with gatekeeper and spending some money on some proper training. They also assure me that within 18montha full gatekeeper will be on the cloud and will be updated to be more user friendly like the gk express format.

funnily enough I've also spoken with them today about this. Despite its issues gatekeeper is still very good and this new cloud based "full fat" GK express in the autumn sounds far more useful. Cost is what annoys me the most, as with most companies these days loyalty counts for nothing!
