Marconi Meters & Repatriation

Hello,

It's taken a while, but I have finally joined this forum solely to help return those Marconi Moisture Meters that my late Father stored/hoarded/promised to repair, but time ran out. Fingers crossed I am on the right thread for this topic. If not, I'm sure to be Moderated outta here.

My father was Dr John Egleton, 81 Pinchbeck Road. Spalding. His trading company was and still is UCS Ltd, although not exactly busy trading.

Hopefully posting here will connect me with those farmers thinking their beloved machines have gone forever, we are trying to repatriate them still. Hopefully to hear stories of how long my Dad would keep you on the phone talking about anything and everything, assuming you had the time to listen. Hopefully, to speak with Nigel, who emailed a while ago, about the vast quantity of spares we have, or maybe there are others who would love a career in repair and calibration?

I will try and respond as soon as I can to any question & request, so please be patient. Those who have been an executor will appreciate what this task can involve. Add busy lives in a Covid world within the Oil and Gas Sector, coupled with decluttering 3 businesses and a 7 bedroom bedroom house, and you get the picture.

I have been reading some previous posts, so will also reply via them.

Nervously, spread the word within your farming community, hope to hear from people soon.

thanks & stay safe

Phil.

Hi Phil,

Firstly, I was saddened to hear of your loss of your father - I did speak with him many times and provided some advice and help where necessary. He did a good job over the years and more recently I have picked up the mantle and stepped into his former shoes in supporting these fine meters for the wider audience.

I originally worked at Marconi (for over 40 years) and saw many of these instruments in manufacture and later on to support them at the same time as your father did.

I applaud your efforts in attempting to return the meters to their former owners and it is difficult if there is no immediate reference of who’s is which... Although I may be able to help with that...

Regarding the spares and other parts, then yes I would very much like to discuss with you about taking these on so that I can continue to provide help and service to others.

Please send me a private message and we can discuss, or you can use my email address if you wish from my last contact.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Ive got no real reason to blow smoke re @Lodekka but he serviced and repaired my two Marconis. Should be good for at least another 10 years. Well worth it if you have one/some of these meters kicking around. He knows his stuff!
Thank you for the kind words.
I am happy to help any
We have a metal one in the shed, also I have a wooden / bakelite one that I bought in a junk shop many years ago. Have they any value now?
hi, if you can send me a picture of them i can give you a detailed answer fairly quickly.

first off the metal one is most likely a TF933A (black or silver grey) and probably recoverable assuming condition that i can see.

the other is older most probably and less useful but i would like to see it please, mainly out of interest...
Don’t dismiss it as you never know.
It is probably one of these...
TF453, TF819 or TF842...
A picture will tell me, look forward to hearing from you.
Regards
Nigel
