Margin per cow

Am at the minute soya and biscuit meal 2kg of each. Next winter is what that plan is getting based around...hypothetically 7kgdm of each feed but that would put the grains high (40% dm gives 17.5kg) which be too high, against 18 pro 12 me grass silage maize and grains in 50/50 split gives starch and good quality cooked protein(some bypass) so grains @ 24pro maize @ 8-10 gives balance between the 2 @ 17 or thereabouts so makes a nice open tasty ration? Might have to chuck a kg of protein source in and like you say need the dm intake rough dm of the tmr be 30-35 depending on forages
That's right on the edge for intakes but if they eat it I agree a lovely mix, will you top up in the parlour.

No parlour feeders that’s 1 tmr for all milkers, I agree it’s pushing the boundaries will run it through diet check with nutritionist but be cheap milk if it did work (y) depends on this years grass and maize silage of course  all hypothetical at the minute

Got to say grass silage and grains is a cracking mix, our problem was always a consistent supply of grains, so thats why we just use hard feeds now

I’m planning next winters feeding currently just under 4ppl purchased feed mopf £220 next winter I’m planning >21kgdm average 12me which I believe should supply me m +32 or thereabouts but would be interested to hear others thoughts? This would be grass silage maize silage and brewers grains only...?
Id give it a go, if they'll eat it then there's no reason it can't be done. Cow type may have a bearing on your success. Should be good for cow health though. Personally we buy alot of feed in as we can only grow grass and our purchased feed cost is 9.4ppl today but our margin is £194 on 28ppl. But our diet is only 38% forage and total feed cost is 12ppl including rent. What I'm trying to say is make sure you cost your forage in as accurately as you can or what seems cheap might not be in the end.

No, you asked if it was a fair price, it might be, but you could get it for less.

Back in the day a great rep Don Mackey used to tell us everything that was going on all over Cheshire and beyond. Don't remember any talk of costings or nutritional advice, but he was definitely good value.

Laterly we had silage testing, nutritional advice and financial data with the feed supply, this wasn't good value.

More recently we are part of a group buy. Total purchased feed cost is about 6ppl, so I run a decent car myself instead of funding a reps car.
I don't like cars, poor investment ;) I'm needing to look into getting myself into a buying group. I will look into that this year

How do you come to 220£ when you don't know what the milk price will be?

Sorry I thought you said what you thought next winters would be!!! Head in the arse moment. Phenomenal margin, but home grown forage will cost a bit. What would total cost of ration be, apologies if you've said before

It’s not always that high  unfortunately. Obviously helped by decent milk price and good forage which won’t always be there..

Sorry margins are all a bit of a mystery to me. The costs in terms of pence per litre are they for all feeds or just bought in feed?
Apologies for being thick.
That’s bought in concs only for me lazy grass silage would be 25 and maize 30 a ton here even though it is grown for less that would be putting it in at market value

Crusty, you must be doing just shy of 35 litres?

Fairy play, i agree about forage costs, extremely difficult.

I tend to put it in at market value?
