Have been thinking about a small shop/stall/ vending machine, have a couple of half decent possible sites, but was curious what sort of mark up could be made on a pack of good bacon or half a dozen eggs when buying them wholesale to sell on?
surely dependant on individual items and what your customer base. Some items may be 20p mark up while others could be 100%. Riverford sell 6 eggs £2.40 (I sell £2) I would guess their margin would be 50p on each box? I dont think there is such a good mark up as you think. Consideration should be given to items close to sell by dates and wastage. Always do market research on what others are selling at. Dont think that buying direct from farm/wholesale is cheap.
Probably cheaper by scouring supermarkets for special deals - cash & carry isn't wholesale .
If you could get a deal with a (30,000 bird) free range egg producer who is prepared to break his contract then you may be able to purchase for under £1 but he would be putting his livelihood at risk[emoji15]
Been down as low as 35p per doz within the past 12 months [emoji849]
Been down as low as 35p per doz within the past 12 months - flip me thats ludicrous I only have 50 birds and sat down and worked out my costs and I sell 12 pasture raised organic eggs for £3.80. I wouldnt bother any less. I know its hardly comparable 30k v 50 but thats why British Agriculture is so forked.
