Marking headlands out but drilling last

What system are you using?

With our NH system. Drill round outside of field once, go to square headland. Set headland to 5, then power harrow mark round field.

Tractor steers headland at end too.

I find it easier to judge a headland mark on the ground than on the screen.

If you still have bout markers, you could select the headland swath and then shift the swath half a drill width outwards and drive round with the bout marker scratting where the inner most edge of the headland passes will be.

You haven’t got woodland edges then? Not too much gps reception round the headlands here!!

We run the ring rolls round the outside with something heavy tied to the end bearing to drag and leave a mark. Not very ‘precision’ granted but very accurate ;)

2018 year built New Holland T6/T7 tractors offer a feature which allows you to trigger the headland sequence at the inner boundary line.

So you would:
- mark out your field boundary line as you do now.
- create an inner headland line from that using the display
- setup your guidance line and HTS sequence
- start drilling on the inland work and when you cross the inner boundary the HTS sequence will be triggered and raise the implement or whatever.
- the guidance will also automatically complete the headland turn also

Deere have a similar feature, don’t know about AGCO.

I don't understand why you'd drill headlands first. We tear them up with a cultivator or let powerharrow in a hole to remove some compaction. Headlands are a big %age of field, especially when you've ten acre fields.

I've always drilled headlands first unless it's a heavy drill or I'm combi drilling on ploughing. My osr headlands will yield better than my main work this year thanks to better consolidation! I can see why intensive cultivations & heavy equipment might push you towards sowing them last.
