Why?

I'm only surmising but I'd say it's because they're very fussy and can't get a group of cattle together perfect so just sell them in singles or at most a pair.

some sales we sell 60 or 70 calves,a lot of them singles, but try and pair a few up so as to keep everyone happy,when a pair come in the buyer will ask if we could split them cos ones better than the other, you cant win!

We will sell 130 odd calves in the year there might be 6 sold as singles and then only because we can't match them up,I will try to put as many as possible evenly matched calves in together. I usually find that if the calves are good and you fill the ring that will be the dearest calves you sell,up here the finishers like to buy these pens of calves as they find they settle better when they get them home.
