does anyone know if a massey 135 will work with a ferguson two furrow plough on the standard wheel width settings, wheels have been sprayed so dont want to mess about with the rims, the tractor has the heavy duty cat 2 arms, i think they are longer than the standard cat 1 arms, will this affect the ploughing

Don't see why not? What wheel centre widths do you have currently? You'll just have to set it up on the cross shaft correctly. I assume the 135 is on 12" wide tyres? What Fergie plough is it? 10" GP plough?
Link arm length won't make a lot of difference, you'll jus run a longer top link to compensate.

ok thanks for the replies, just checked and its 52" wheel centres with 12" tyres, the plough is either 10 or11" not sure, will the back tyres sit in the furrow of a 10" plough, does it matter if the toplink if not running straight ie if the plough is moved over on the crossshaft, have seen pictures of massey 135 at ploughing matches with the same plough i have and they have the right hand wheel set at narrowest setting why is this? just need to get the mouldboards polished up and give it a try

Top link needs to run straight, that is one of the basics of plough settings, plough will be 10 or 12 inch

ok so am i right in saying the distance from the plough point to the inside of the tyre should be either 10 or 12" depending on which plough i have

I 've a fergie 3 furrow on 11 " , just the way some one had made up the frame , easy to check with a tape .
99 % will be 10 or 12" as stated .

any time spent in the workshop trying to clean the bodies will not be wasted !!!!!!

They did a 3 furrow at 8", very rare but they did, with Lea boards. Narrower the better re furrows it produces, the GP boards produce a lovely furrow at 9" if you can get them to that width!

Toplink needs to run straight on reversible ploughs up to 4 furrows, larger Lemken's run with toplink at an angle to help pull more from centre of plough.
Conventional ploughs do not need the top link to run straight, if you run your grey Ferguson on 48 centres the top link might run somewhere near straight but as you increase the wheel width the plough sits further to the right on the tractor to correct the furrow width, the top link will then run on an angle with no detriment to the finished work so long as the top link has been lengthened to compensate for the angle it runs on.
