Hi,
Has anyone on here had experience with the after market power steering kits made for the Massey 135 as shown below. I am thinking of retro fitting one to our 135 and after having MF 40's fitted with Masseys original attempt at power steering, which i thought was a very poor system I am interested to know if the after narket kts are any better.

Yes, power assisted, thats all the original Massey system was, but was controlled by a spool valve attached to the steering column, just wondering how this system above was controlled or load sensed?

Movement of the steering wheel moves the rod that's linked to the spool valve that activates and let's oil through to the ram.

yes, i believe that is how the original massey system worked. Does the after market kit need to be fitted to a tractor that was already power assisted and therefore have the spool already fitted to the steering column or can it be retro fitted to a tractor that previously, had only manual steering?

No.The spool isn't fitted to the steering column. It's built into the ram. In your picture above,it's activated by the joint that's sticking up to the left of the pump/reservoir.

OK, thanks for your help, I was hoping it was built into the ram somehow.

Know of a Ford 4000 with a kit fitted years ago. Given the state of the rest of the tractor, it's a wonder it actually goes but the ps still works too and it's as light as a feather.
