Massey 290 Serial Number

Anyone know where it is? The lower radiator hose has split and it seems there might be a couple of different ones depending on the serial. I've looked inside the cab by the steering wheel but there is just a patent sticker. Also looked on the engine/transmission casings but can only see large raised numbers and I don't think it's those. There is a plate above the rear window inside the cab but I'm pretty sure that's just for the Sankey cab itself. Any ideas??

The later ones may have had 4" spacers between the block and the tombstone and needed a longer hose. Buy the later one and shorten it if needed.

Thanks. I'm a self-confessed amateur mechanic so not really sure what you mean. Block = engine block? Tombstone = ?? I guess your saying the radiator was further from the engine so longer hose needed at the rad end? It's a B registration if that helps.

From memory the serial number plate would be on the front face of the battery tray behind the front grill having said that a leaking battery can destroy it .

Thanks. There is indeed a plate below the battery tray. It was covered in a thick layer of crud. Unfortunately, the crucial serial part of it is corroded. I read somewhere that it's also stamped into the rear axle casing - top middle. So cleaned that off and there's a 6 digit number stamped in. Hopefully that's it.

Agriline has 3 different OEM numbers and that's not one of them. Most other sites have just that number. This site says depending on serial number so just wanted to double check:

Just a quick update on this for anyone else who might be looking for their serial number, or for a bottom radiator hose for the 290!

I emailed Farming Parts two days ago but didn't get a reply. So I emailed Agriline yesterday. They didn't reply either so I called them this morning. They have two hoses listed for the Massey 290. One is the 885563M1 OEM that most other sites have and the other has 3 different OEM numbers: 194737M1, 898748M1 and 898748M2.

Apparently it depends on which type of Perkins engine family it is. The 885563M1 is for the 203, 212 and 318. The other hose is for the 248. They explained where the serial number should be, depending on the engine type but I couldn't find it so I looked on here:

I eventually found it just above the fuel pump on the left side. It was stamped into the block rather than being on a plate as Perkins said. It begins with LF which means it's the 248 so according to Agriline I need the 194737M1/898748M1/898748M2 hose. I also found the engine family types on here:

Anyway, I've ordered it so let's just hope it fits after all this!

Why would it depend on what engine family it is?. It's a 290 therefore it's a 248.
Who ever is advising you that the 885 563 can fit 203 212 and 318 obviously doesn't have a clue as they are all different types of engine.

Two suppliers say it depends on the serial/engine family so I'm only trying to make sure I buy the correct one. I didn't mean to wind anyone up but I obviously have. Sorry.
