Hi all, I have a MF 360 which starts on the first tip of the key and has plenty of power and does not smoke from the exhaust. Bought it from a potato farmer and looks and drives like it never had a hard life. Ever since i took it on its first hard haul it has started to breath heavy when warm and will push oil up the dipstick causing a leak. There is also now engine oil leaking from the drain point below the clutch when the engine gets warm. All of these symptoms only started after hauling a good load.

When i test drove the tractor i gave it a good drive and plenty of revs for a good 20 mins and the breather and dipstick were fine.

I am going to check the breather pipe from the rocker cover for blockages as a first measure. I would also be inclined to get a pressure test carried out to check for broken/worn piston rings although the engine is running perfectly fine with no excessive smoke or noise, starting first tip and has plenty of poke. Is there anything else i should be checking? Could the oil lines through the block also be blocked up and is there any way of checking this when i have the rocker cover off? Thanks

Have you changed the oil. And have you used the correct grade of oil.

Sorry should have said that was also on the to do list. Apparently it was just changed before i bought it but who knows.

Picked up a filter and oil yesterday. The guy looked up the model and said Exol 15W/40 was correct.

Take it the oil level is correct. Our zetor started breathing heavy and puttin oil out breather. Turned out too much oil in engine caused by diesel leaking into oil and was causing to much pressure

So i checked the vent pipe and it's clear. Changed oil and warmed the engine for a good bit and still breathing but not just as bad. Is there anything else I should check before getting a compression check done? I had a DB before which had broken piston rings and it was an awful pig to start before getting sorted. The Massey engine is starting and pulling the best and nothing like the DB was. Confused...

Id say the test is your best bet given symptons unless sum1 else has betr suggestion

So the engine seems to be breathing a lot less now than before the oil change which is good. However there seems to be more oil coming out the rocker vent pipe than before. When I cleaned the pipe a long spring came out of it. I havent put the spring back in yet, would this have anything to do with the excessive oil? Any idea what the spring is for??

The spring prevents the hose to press flat and to get shut down.
