Mmm, got a 5711 d4. Has developed brake issues recently. Had it a year or so. Minor niggles but been ok other than the brakes.
Right hand side seems to stick...noticeable on soft ground or up hill on the road.
On the whole I've found it to be a cracking tractor, but I'm comparing it to 25 year old stuff. As for reliability...ask again in 5 years

What became of the brakes? Ive heard of another doing this.

A pin had corroded on the right hand thing'i'me'bob.....(handbrake linkage thing) and wasn't releasing. Part replaced
through warranty. The whole dome was replaced, if that makes sense.

What I can't understand is why MF are following Fendt with this kind of old fashioned ramp and ball, expanding plate type of disc brake actuation. Is it because it is somehow 'better' with more than one friction disc than the large clamping piston used on most other farm tractors since the Italians started using the design on Fiat and Same tractors back in the late 1970's? I can find nothing wrong with the multiple disc brakes in both rear and front of my Same Titan that use the disc-size clamping piston.
I can see far more wear points and linkages on the expanding plate 'Girling' style actuators like the one above which is basically similar to that used in the wet brake MF 100 through to 4300 series and Ford/NH tractors up until they stopped using the Ford 5000 type axle not so long ago. They require linkage and handbrake adjustments far more often and when the plates wear to a certain point they engage unevenly and eventually with a bit of an audible bang.

The latest French built axles [if they are actually French built axles], or the axles for many of MF's four cylinder tractors have gone to a similar design just recently. No information has been made public, as far as I know, as to what advantage it gives to the owner or operator of the tractor, if any.

So rather than being something new and novel, this type of brake system harks back to the 'good old days'. I've no doubt that since they [you] have found some sealing issues in that part, it will very quickly be modified with better sealing at the factory and as a service modification. It's what always happens with new models of anything.

Well I have a global 5711 d4 with a loader ive put about 700 hrs on it,was that or px my 5445 for the s model so i decided on the global and kept the 5445.For me its a very handy tractor needs the double pump but the other options brake to clutch and auto change for me not much good.
Cab a bit smaller than the 5445 but i find its better to get into and out as you tend to fall out of the 5445 seems odd but.( perhaps as im getting older its a more postive get in and out)
D4 is better than the speed shift most of the time.Cab quality not as good, visability for gear on the back very good, telecopic pick up hitch good( dromone)
For me its a good little loader tractor the loader lever is just in the right place,3 spools in a funny( perhaps chinese order)213(least thats what its says on the back) and the spools at the back are the opposite way around(perhaps how they should have been many years ago) pressure at the top instead of the bottom opposite to the other 2 tractors!!!!!!
Early days ask me next year if its still ok
So is she doing ok for you?
