Massey 6170 clutch problem!

Hi, I’m having trouble with the clutch being very sharp on my 6170, I’ve searched through the forum and read various threads with similar problems but none quite like mine! When the tractor is cold clutch is absolutely fine but when it gets hot it is either on or off, as I lift the pedal it tries to drive several times before engageing very suddenly. However if I stop the tractor and start it again the clutch is ok again! This is making me think electrical and I’ve heard of problems with the trans temp sensor, could this be the problem? Any advise would be appreciated!

Got the same problem and hoping there will be a answer in this thread. The servo is also heavy in ours. Don't know if you got the same? If I'm correctly, both are on the same pressure side? We changed the hydraulic pump because of wear, but that didn't make any difference. Can bleeding the system help here?

Low oil pressure will be your problem but finding where it’s leaking is a struggle without you get a gauge plumbed up to the 17bar test port and work all your functions (clutch, difflock, 4wd and dynashift and see which affects the pressure, the most common problem is the seals in the 4wd drop box loosing pressure

@davedb The weird thing is it's only the clutch and the steering. Dynashift, 4wd, difflock, PTO no problem with these. With a oil leak, the complete system should act weird? Or is it normal the clutch and steering are affected first? I was thinking about the distribution valve, but it's fed with the oil coming from the steering? So the leak should be before it went trought the distribution valve?

Ours went like that
It was a shredded brake disc in the end
The filings had damaged some of the o rings in the dyna box
Everything else worked ok
Need to get it pressure tested to see where the problem is

a neighbour has clutch problems with his 6150 …. if it is standing for a few days then he has to bleed it then it is ok. he was told that it is common problem

Our 6140 also has clutch problems - some days the clutch goes straight to the floor and has to be bled at the master cylinder to get a clutch. it might do it every day for a week, then be fine for weeks on end. also heard it is a common problem

Gonne buy a small pressure tester. Is a hydraulic test hose M16 x 2 (630 bar) and a manometer enough? Does someone know what kind of coupling it needs to have to connect to the distribution valve to measure?

If you unscrew the test port fitting out of the tractor you should be able to screw a standard hydraulic fitting in its place, I forget what it is might just be 1/4 bsp thinking about it

Hi,
Did you ever get your problem solved?
I have a 6180 that has a clutch issue at the moment,
It drives perfect when it's cold but then it get warm it won't drive and it looses the 17 bar pressure, I've change the temperature sensor, the clutch packs have been done and it got a new hydraulic pump and it didn't solve the problem
Any help would be much appreciated

Not completely. We did the same steps, change clutch, hydraulic pump and also the orbitrol. Orbitrol was broken due the dirt that went inside the system.
It works better now, as we don't loose drive anymore. But still very jumpy.
The next thing I need to do is the master cylinder. As there's a small leak there. And I hope it will reduce the jumpy clutch.
