i remember place i worked having trouble with a 6170 the same way, everything done, tank out etc etc, would just happen every so often, then one day i was round baling and it stopped dead again, got out to find the glass bowl had shattered! put new one on and never missed a beat after that, reckoned there was a hairline crack in the bowl or something like that which was letting air in. i cant remember how expensive the replacement one was but might be worth a shot if you could swap with another one?

Thanks, We'll definitely have a look at the bowl...Its been washed and retightened.

This has been very frustrating when nothing seems to work. Taking the fuel tank and injection pump off is no easy quick fix and soul destroying when they don't work.

Is it a datatronic if so could be the fuel flow meter. Also had one with a cracked fuel filter housing only showed up when tractor was hot. If you can put a clear pipe between filter and fuel pump and watch to see if there is any air bubbles going up the pipe

That reminds me, I filled the tractor one evening for the following morning and was greeted with the sight of diesel running out under the shed door.

The glass had cracked and run about 25 gallons out. Bad words were used....

So I'm kinda having the same problems. This sucks for my first post instead of saying hi to everyone. So I'll say it now (HI). Now on to my previous statement. I'm kinda having the same problems. Although I've cleaned the tank, new filters and glass. No leaking at all. I have however not replaced the injector pump. If I can get a video to post I will. I have a video of the work I did yesterday and what ivI' done to on the pump. To me yesterday it didn't seem like I was getting good fuel to the lines. Worked on it a bit and now I'm getting what I think is a little better fuel . But the Massey 6170 still won't run. The second video you will hear it start up but that's on a little trick I learned. No it's not starting fluid. It's fumes from gas through the air breather. But it got it to run for a second longer. Any ideas would be great I have hay down and rain moving in soon.

So I could check the fuel cut off switch of the pump. And then trace those wires back. I'll also check out the ignition switch. Thank you for the ideas! I really wish I could figure out how to post these videos of the injector pump.

Try the reply button and then upload a file, choose from camera, documents, video and press post reply.

I think I got the videos to go. I used my you tube account. My wife told that should do the trick. I tried the way you told me to last night and maybe I was just so stumped with my tractor I couldn't figure out anything else.

There’s nothing like enough fuel coming out of that injector pump in them videos, take the stop solenoid out and remove the little plunger that’s in the pump, screw the solenoid back in and try again but be aware if it starts now you won’t be able to stop it with the key you’ll have to put it in a high gear and stall it

Head out there to try that. And will definitely let you know. Again I can't help but say thank you to all that have help me with this project/problem. Will update soon and let all know if that works.

As above, but try 12Volts straight from the battery across the valve first.

Edit:
When I say the valve I mean stop solenoid valve.

Welcome to the forum

. Boy I'm learning this meida stuff.. lol ok so here is the valve with 12 voltsV to it. In my opinion I think it should go down further. So I took out the spring and put the thing back in still a no go without using my little trick I learned. Using that trick I was able to run the tractor for about 25 second's. Then it died. And again thank you all for the help and thank you for the welcome.

Can you connect the solenoid directly across the battery to see if that changes anything?

If you have 14Volts across the battery and have the same across the solenoid when running, dont bother wiring directly to the battery. But if you haven't measured full battery voltage across the solenoid (when running), please use my suggestion to fully eliminate the supply to the valve, as the cause of your problem.

Couldn't you force the cutoff open by direct connection to battery for a test?
Any smoke out the chimney? If so, how many cranks before it shows?
Thinking if it was an air leak it would take a lot of turning over to see smoke if at all?

I have 13.32 voltage to the solenoid. I have yet to check the voltage on the battery's. I do have well I think I have plenty of fuel coming out of the bleed screws. As far as smoke I have none coming out when I use my truck to get it to run for 20 seconds.
