Just wondering as we would like to put a turbo on our 3085 as it does struggle a bit on the hills. Sadly no one seems to sell a turbo kit anymore unless anyone knows otherwise?
Yes a kit is available from a company called Scan Turbo, I've tried mailing them in the past for a kit for a case 4240, or 4230, but no reply. But the kits are available through Granit, dont know the price. Screenshot_20200927-205552_Samsung Internet.jpg

Do Perkins ever pull that well though?? Even with a turbo and inter cooler? I think I’ll run the risk it really only is on light duty’s now!! I’ll post some pics if I can find a kit!

Many years ago a neighbour had a new Massey 290 (A4.248 engine) on a 3m mower conditioner.
The tractor was always under powered and the engine under tremendous load. Or as he said ‘on it’s knees’.

He fitted a turbocharger which pushed up the power from under 80hp to about 105hp. The engine was never designed for a turbo but from then on it was always on top of the job with the mower, doing the job quicker and easier than the standard engine.

This tractor did many thousands of hours and was still ok when traded in some years later. So there is an argument that says that if a turbocharger enables the tractor to do its work easier and with less stress, then it surely has to be better for the tractor and the operator?
put a opico turbo on the 290 we used for lime spreading, took it to gliddons to have it run up on the dyno and the pump set up I asked the mechanic how far it would go and he got 120 hp out of it but you couldn't see across the yard for smoke so put it back to 105, use to have it reving to 26 and it went well

We had a 3085 with a Tb turbo fitted to it it could punch had to get bigger cooling system in it for front topper and grimme variant 1700 in our wet conditions here just sitting u nder the red on temperature but she could work was keeping up with new tm 125s at the time carting silage for a local contractor which were new and the pump screw was fully opened on them they where faster on the road empty but I could eat them on the hills

With the exception of my Allis B, I’ve yet to own a machine where I’ve thought ‘mmm this cooling system is a bit over the top’. That would be my main concern.

Brining this thread back up! Got most of the bits to fit the turbo up now. What's everyone's suggestion on fuelling? Do I send the pump off and get it reset to deliver more fuel to match the air, basically set to 6190 spec? Is it the same pump on all the 61 range? Or even set to 8130 pump, is 81 on same pump set up? Or do I look for a Stanadyne pump off a 3120? Are there different nozzle on the injectors? I was prob going to get the injectors refurbed also.

Install turbo kit as is and dyno her on standard fuelling first.

Exactly there easy to tune get a pic of pump or just google it for tips, Bosch pumps are super easy to tune with good results if you can get one of them.

said it before I tuned a 306 td with a Bosch pump from 92 bhp to 138 it was awesome!!!

then you can tune it for as much/little smoke as you like

A neighbour here has a 3125 from new , It was tweaked and doing 145hp at the shaft, drew silage in it a few times, was a great pulling tractor. Getting back into our untweaked 3095 and it felt pretty gutless.

Does a 6170 have the same rubber donut setup from the engine as a 6150 or is the same setup as a 6180?

Used these lads a few times, can’t recommend them enough. If you send your pump to them it’s about two week turn around. If you buy a pump off the shelf I had it in 3 days.
Really knew what they were on about 👍
