Massey 6490 Battery Light

Does anyone else’s Massey 6490 spend about 1 min topping up the battery voltage after starting before it will engage gear?

It has always done it a little bit but seems to have got a bit worse/longer recently and happens every day. I’m losing sight of what “normal” is.

Thanks. I checked it yesterday. Mine has the earth lead directly to the cab. There was a rusty toothed lock washer between the terminal and the cab for some reason so I moved that the bolt head side in the hole that might be the cause of the trouble.

Started it up this morning and had the same trouble so back to the drawing board.

Our 6499t2 usually has the charge light on for a while when starting first thing in a morning. I’ve put it down to the cab compressor starting up combined with voltage drop from starting.its a dynashift so doesn’t stop you driving

Just timed it for curiosity, it was 40s so not too bad. Tractor hasn’t been started for 24hrs.

Interestingly taking @rob h ’s comment - cab compressor won’t kick in until after this and then the tractor will move.

Could well be early signs of alternator failure.
