Massey 690 steering

Hi I’ve just recently purchased a Massey 690 and the steering is v difficult, it’s stiff and it wanders just trying to locate the steering oil reservoir which isn’t obvious, now wondering if it shares the hydraulic oil which leads me to also ask where is the level plug/ dip stick for the hydraulic oil level. Power steering pump is mounted at the front right hand side of the engine. Reservoir has a 22mm plug. Engine running steering wheel one turn to left. Fill to plug level with at.

As above. Fill with ATF.
Back end dipstick on ours was in front of the rear axle on the rhs.

Yes unless it's a late model where the dipstick goes in the same place but is extended over the rear axle for easier access

Topped ours up the symptoms sound similar and it was low on oil topped it up and now much better there is a bolt on the oil tank remove that and fill to level but manual Stayes to run engine and move steering lock to lock a couple of times first then out on full lock one side (ram fully retracted) and top up, if it’s really low I would take the tank off and replace filter and o ring process is covered on a few 590 videos on YouTube

Are they the same system as the 590? Seem to remember it is wear in the trunnion pin causes this problem. A big job to sort. Can be nearly undrivable on the road

Yes same as 590. Not a big job at all

It is almost undrivable on the road your correct, ive yet to check the oil level so I will report back
