Hi, I have a MF135 with a bad leak from the clutch housing I have split the tractor and there seems a bit of end play in the crankshaft (1-2mm approx) is this to much, I don't want to fit a new rope seal just for it to leak again.

That will be fine, the thrust washers have a bit of wear, probably due to a bit of foot resting on the clutch pedal over the years.

Wont cause any harm, you can fit the new seal.
Also worth checking the sump breather isn't partially blocked causing a build up of sump pressure.

I will check the breather, but there wasn't anything out the dipstick so hopefully it's clear. It was a gusher from the clutch housing.
I want to make sure it's ok because I am doing it for someone as a favour.

It's not that much bigger job to whip the sump off and replace the thrust washers as I recall... They often leak oil from the Cork seals on the bearing caps too. So a bit of a belt and braces job perhaps??

THIS
most of the oil will be leaking through the cork seal between the rear main bearing and sump, which will have gone hard. fit new sump seal kit replace thrust washers while you are in there.

I ended up doing this on mine when it was split to replace crank seal. Hopefully never need to split again! Maybe I shouldn't have said that though! Sods law!
