Well everything else works so it's hard to tell, but let's face it a 50yr old tractor will always need something, from what I've seen most of the tractors available if fitted with multipower dont seem to work , looking for a tractor is a minefield so I'm trying to tread carefully

It seems a wee bit suspicious the way the multi power has been blanked off I bought a 65 knowing the multi power wasnt working turned out the pipe from the pump was slack that was probably the lowest cost repair I,ve done in a long while.

All in all in doesn't make much sense, the seller was upfront about it when asked, not an easy thing to cover up considering how well documented these tractors are, removing all the linkage is annoying as I'm struggling to find those parts, ring round the breakers I suppose, apart from the split the job itself doesn't look too difficult, I've tried to upload a video of it running and driving but it fails to be the right format, in the meantime I'll keep looking , lots of 35's and 135's but I'm thinking a bit more bhp may be better

MrNoo you may well be correct I've tried to find suitable images of the 175 , I'm sure I've seen some with the multipower lever on the left side where that label is,

Id go for it, get her split and get multipower fixed right check clutch and unless its like new replace it as if your loaderin way it thatl be sore on clutch. Then youl have a tractor that should do along time without to many repairs hopefully

i think that plate is genuine. there should be another brass plate with massey ferguson on it and a list of patent numbers stamped on it. i thought 100 series had the m/p lever under the rh side of the steering wheel. the curved slot with the hole below it was for an indicator switch and should have a triangular plastic cover in it. is there a slot under that sticker for a m/p lever? the MF quality approved sticker is where the dashboard light should be,

Hi
Buy the tractor, cost of parts for multipower rebuild is roughly £100 150 that's every seal inc the steel compression rings on the input shafts, personally I'd fix the tractor because if your putting a loader on it and it runs away the brakes will lock up and skid out of control....

That serial plate is genuine too Just the restorer has shot blasted the black outline off...
Also he must have elbow problems while painting.

Check it out again on a 2nd viewing personally
The mp linkage is hard to find I've had to make our own on previous jobs from copying another.

To do the mp split it at the clutch then remove gearbox
Take brake crosshaft and input housing out you'll see the rings there then remove hi low reduction off the rear, selectors out
Circlip off the bottom gear knock shaft back a little to get the gear out then top shaft back to lift the pack out....in a a quick description

Basically the pack is nearly last to come out

They're a simple box really

Plates might not be the issue though
Pressure loss on rings
Pressure loss on pump fittings
Blocked filters
Pumped goosed
The linkage worn not operating the valve fully

The multipower pack is now obsolete they can wear out if slipped abused for long periods

Plenty of help online to see you through the repair if your confident and willing to listen

Also buy a workshop manual it's easy then really to give an idea of tolerances

Keep us informed on progress

Yep a 175 with the lever on the left in a video by incredible vintage tractors
Not all 175’s had Multi-Power. I remember my grandfather had one which didn’t have it, whereas my father’s did.
Are you sure this one had it originally?

If it did have it and now somebody has removed the operating lever, you can tell by driving it. If there is no engine braking as you throttle back, it definitely had it originally and somebody has removed the lever.

Guys brilliant advice all round, pleased about the plate being original, I'm not sure what the dash layout should be, I've just surfed the web for information (dangerous and time consuming pastime)
Fixing the multipower doesn't faze me I've had my head and hands in worse places than a gearbox! Making the linkage is in my skill set too, but I would prefer the easier option obviously

It definitely is a multipower version as she free wheels beautiful

Decisions decisions, shes a bit of a cheap start for me I know I shouldn't but she does look good (beer googles or not)

As I re-read the posts, I see multiple issues with the number plate, issues with the multipower, he didn't do the restoration. Has it been registered? Would you have to do that? What might you find when you try to register it? He didn't do the restoration and stickers in the wrong place, not much of a restorer. Sounds more like a quick coat of paint and remove the linkage for the multipower to sort that issue, get rid of the tractor and let the next guy worry about it.

Wow mixed reactions all round, my initial post was to ascertain the serial no and age the vehicle, general consensus is that it's a genuine plate and number putting year of manufacture to 1970, I myself searched for serial number details on the web and could not achieve this so I'm happy with that.
The seller idid not do the restoration was open and honest about the multipower, does the seller have to be the restoration man too? the missing linkage is annoying as difficult to obtain or copy, could it be that it was missing before the restoration? I again searched to find where it should be on the dash, there are lots of lovely pics and videos out there but very few show that detail and google searches didn't help, there is no hole under the sticker so I assume it will be on the right hand side, I did find a video showing it on the left in that position so I apologise for that error! The multipower was not a major issue for me as I felt I could tackle the repair, as stated it's well documented and despite the fact it may have trouble getting out of gear if locked in high, it seems that even massey offered a kit to do this at some stage!
A lot of money and time has already been spent on the tractor, tin work , paint, brakes (apparently new ?) lights, etc , all works as it should, not defending the seller or the restoration man, but I've seen several unfinished, nearly done projects for sale, why? They would surely get more money complete, the answer is usually unknown or money, time, no space, garage rental is not being renewed etc.
The tractor is not registered and I dont see a need to register it for my usage.
I'm very grateful for everyone who has taken time to comment and all advice has been considered and taken into account, maybe my last question should be how much would you pay for this tractor?
My decision remains at this time unmade and I continue looking in the meantime, I will keep you posted on developments and any other potential purchases

Apart from the obvious colour match issue on the tinwork what other good bad things do you see, theres a lever missing looks like a bolt instead?

Looks nice as all repainted tractors do. Apart from the Multi-power issue, make sure she will start on cold days. Those 4 236 engines can be a bugger when it is cold and many got so addicted to easy start that they won’t even go on a warm day without it.
