Massey Ferguson 2640 gear linkage

As you know this was a common wearing part on them. Do you know if you can still get the gear linkage for a 2640? If so, where from and how much?
Many thanks.

The only wearing part was the red hard plastic coupler, that bit sometimes got misshaped or the lugs on the inside broke off. Replacing that and spending a bit of time setting it up will get you a good clean gear selection.

The gear linkage on the gear leavers gets worn out and sloppy. This is a common problem with them as they become even more difficult to get in gear.
Me again, have you tried adjusting the selector rails inside the gearbox? or replacing the flexible coupling on the linkage under the cab which can be made up by yourself?

Many thanks for both of your replies, it is greatly appreciated.
Do either of you know where I could get a plastic coupler from?
If not, like @Hay Maker suggests I'll make one myself.
Thanks again @Hay Make and @MF CI.

I have got trouble with the forward and backward shuttle lever it is very loose and I only have reverse. Does this sound like the red coupler?

No absolutely not, different lever going to a different place on the round gear selector cover. Try disconnect the 6ish inch long link between the lever mechanism and the arm on the round cover. Is the arm on the cover sloppy? Try it fully one way see if tractor moves, then fully other way. Sounds like the fork is broken.

Thank you I'll let you know how I get on.

Just remembered at the other end of that 6 inch link, the arm there sort of fits over the tube for the 1 2 3 4 gear selection and is held on by a big nut maybe a taper and or a key way. It is possible for that nut to come loose and make the lever feel sloopy.
Must say all these things are much easier to see on a tractor than to describe in words.

I have really bodged the lever for the time being as you will see in the photos. I think it is the cup piece on the very top/the forward backward selector has worn thin. I don’t know how hard or easy these are to source. Thank you ever so much for your help and advice.

Never ever seen a problem with that part of the gear change, the other lever being welded is like that on almost very 2000 series tractor. If your bodge has got it working then you know now where your problem is, plenty of 2000 series tractors in breakers yards for parts.

It's like as if somebody has been in there before and not put the bolts back tight and resulting in wearing this part the way that it has.

Parts are hard to come by now even in breakers yards ,we have had 2000's with over 10,000 hours on them and never had problem with gear linkage, MK 1 had a mod done in gear select cover on side of gearbox
