MF 450s excavator, MF450d Hanomag excavator,MF 400 crawler Hanomag 66c loading shovel. The gentleman I worked for in seventies had one of the biggest fleets around!! For sure today he says they helped to build his large company! Which still exists today!!

I thought of you when I first found that film - the 760 combines, the brief glimpses of the big 2wd 2700 tractors, the diggers and loaders.. I guess the 500 tractors were in France, they didn't mention Banner Lane much?

What happened to Hanomag? I know the wheeled diggers became Terex?

Hanomag ultimately was bought by komatsu but after MF owned it it bacame part of a group that wa called IBH that collapsed spectacularly in the 1980's think IBH owned terex at the time also .
The head man of IBH was was called horst dieter esch who after the collapse was arrested for fraud and ultimatley jailed for 3 years as they had been cooking the IBH books for a few years apparently , it was in a resession at the time and they had been making false intercompany sales to make the business look viable but while no doubt paying himself handsomely !!!
Post IBH collapse i think Hanomag was taken over by the german goverment or at least the regional goverment komatsu buying a stake of it and ultimatley taking the remaining portion some years later.

When I first got really interested in tractors back in 1987 there were three 2725s working on different local farms. Stetchworth estates had one and an old 2680, which I got to drive a few times. Then they decided to retire it and put the 2725E on the 5f Kv plough, which I got to drive a couple of times when visiting the farm. I really liked the novelty of pushing buttons instead of cranking old levers like in the 2680. Got some photos somewhere.

Heres a picture of a 6 month old 2725E from Topham Smiths farm based near Newmarket.
A real beast indeed:) ..............The cast metal wheels on the MF flagship tractors always looked so much better than the boring steel wheels on the smaller models imo.

I guess the third one you mentioned belonged to G. A. Thornally

I found some more pictures..................One of the Stetchworth machine ploughing up the very green field (combined by Claas combines;)) and the other tractor was photographed between Freckenham and Isleham, was that Thornallys?
All D reg 1987 machines which I found most annoying at the time as I was desperate for one of the farms locally to buy one of the first new MF3650s and they had all gone and bought the last of the 2725s:LOL:

Yes the second one would be thornallys. They no longer farm the land. Both these tractors eere sold from the kennet brsnch of tns.it was replaced with a 3655

Yes, Thornallys, Stetchworth and a farm out beyond wickhambrook all had 3655s, but MF had spoiled the tractors appearance by fitting a straight exhaust stack instead of that nice big fat flat vision obscuring exhaust on the original 3650:D

We ran 750s then a pair of 855 models till 4 years ago, still got them as emergency backups. They were ok, easy to fix and you could get on if you needed to. Never really had issues with the front half, but the walkers and shaker shoe were a bit flimsy.
Moved onto a 38, totally different experience comfort wise, quiet and freezing air con. Electrics could be tricky, but fixable. Kept launching walkers out the back tho, now just cut peas with it, another backup!
Now got a john Deere cts, again a bloody great leap up the ladder as an all round combine.
These old combines have their place but if you have loads on and stock work too, they become less fun in my opinion, just need to jump on it for an afternoon an cut 40acres, not possible with an 855.

You make several valid points Iron Duke, although it's difficult to compare 30 yr old technology to what's available today! But to be honest output comes at a price with what I see left behind by several makes of today's flagships!! And I'm a particularly well travelled man who looks out for this kind of thing! Sadly!!
