Massey Ferguson 3060

Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum and hoping you can help me.
Yesterday I bought myself a 1988 Massey Ferguson 3060 which is in good condition, drives absolutely perfect.

I have a big problem. I cannot seem to get the linkage to move up and down. I don't know if I am just not doing something I should be or if there is something I need to do. I have looked at the dipstick that is at the back of the tractor which looks like it could do with topping up. Is that the hydraulic fluid? Is so where do I top it up?

I know very little about tractors apart from the very basics.

I would appricate any help or advise.

you have to flick the linkage switch up and down before it will work after you have started the tractor, also make sure the spool valve levers are in the middle position

Great, will give that a go.
Does the tractor need a certain rpm? Or will work when idle?
Out of interest where the hydraulic fluid go?

Should decend at idle, might need some weight on (stand on the arms) if it hadn't been worked for a while

There is a neck on the back end of the tractor with a filler cap (if I remember correctly!!)

Sorry, I am wrong! Undo this 27mm nut and fill from there. Just don't round it off otherwise you will have to chisel it off!!

I know for a fact the rev counter is very temperamental at working, it normally comes to life after running the tractor for about 20 minutes.

How long should it take for the battery light to go out?

If the Rev counter isn't working then your alternator isn't working. Might be worth getting a volt meter and checking, does it start alright??

Should go out straight after revving it up

Starts perfectly every time.
Do you mean to test the battery or instruments? Is so where would I do that?

Test the battery with engine off and then when the engine is started/underload

Should read 12 off and over 14 started. Alternator might need tensioning

It could be something as simple as the arm levelling handle has seezed up inside the sleeve or it has bent slightly - without any weight on the linkage this will stop the arms moving up or down. Just stop it off (only a few nuts and bolts) clean it, straighten it if bent then put it back on.

Thanks for all your help guys, with a few combined answers I have got it working.

Totally off subject but am curious, I can see what I believe to be a screen wash button but no idea where to put the fluid?

Thanks again for or all your help

I think its down by the right hand side steps somewhere...?? Follow the pipe from the jet in front of the windscreen and you will soon find it!

Very good tractors and will go on forever if looked after, one I used to drive is pushing 15,000 hours by now.

Just keep an eye on the sleeves on the 4wd shaft
