Massey Ferguson 390 4wd fault

Got a Massey Ferguson 390 with a 4wd noise.. it’s a later tractor with electric 4wd.. when you touch the brakes whilst driving it bangs when you release the brakes.. suspected 4wd pack fault.. I have removed the 4wd dog clutch assembly and there is some wear to the dog clutch.. is this something anyone else has had problems with..

Ours does exactly the same, hasn't got worse have just learnt to be gentle with it. Which is no use to you whatsoever, sorry lol. Funnily enough the 4wd light stopped coming on a few days ago, need to just experiment to see if the 4wd isn't engaging or its just light switch/bulb.

Thinking about putting a switch to select 4wd braking only for road driving. I don't like it jumping into 4wd every time I brake doing farm work.

We did this on our 390 loader tractor, 4wd was always banging out especially with lock on, can’t do it any good.
As to wether it was legal, possibly not, we had to put the switch in ‘ourselves’.

Thanks for all the reply’s.. we found the issue.. it was the little shaft sealing ring on the back of the pack assembly broken up this casing a high pressure leak and a delay in disengaging the dog clutch.. changed the seals and dogs all seems perfect now...
